File Associations

Post by Shanester »

Greetings,

When I open PSP, I get a dialog box:

File Format Associations
Which file formats do you want the application to open by default?

Are there any file types "native" to Corel that I should associate? For example, I don't want to associate .bmp, .gif, .jpg, etc., but if there are any file formats that are specific to Corel, I would like to associate them to PSP.

Thanks,
Shane.

Things like .pspimage are PSP files. But the rest, as you suspect, are not. If you choose not to associate anything and tell the program to quit bugging you it will be quite apparent if you run across the file later what it's for.

I've associated these two file types:

.cmx Corel Clipart
.riff Corel Painter

Adobe Photoshop has it's own file type (.psd). I thought PSP might also have a native file format, but it doesn't look like it does.

I've clicked "Don't show this message again".

Thanks,
Shane.

.pspimage, .psptube, .pspframe, .psp, .pspshape, .psptube, etc..... lot's of PSP stuff. Not too sure about .cmx or .riff. Those are for other programs and won't behave exactly the same as if they were in those programs.

When PSP launches, I get the opening dialog box. If I select "Selected file formats. Please show list", it opens the Set Associations in Control Panel. None of the file types you mentioned, however, are listed.

I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements before PSP, so I was also wondering if it would have grabbed all image associations for itself, but it doesn't look like it has.

Thanks for your help.

I am having this problem since I installed Windows 10. Never happened previously. I checked on Corel website for any updates for PSP X7 but none available. How can I fix this problem?

What version does yours show -- mine is 17.3.0.30 and the first 3 indicates that it is up to date with SP3. You can find these at http://howto.corel.com/en/c/PaintShop_P ... nd_Updates though they are also available on the Corel.com site under Support.

What is shown in Control Panel > Default Programs > File Associations against, say, .pspimage? Mine shows PSP X7 -- but that was already on my computer before I upgraded to Win 10? Did you install PSP before or after the upgrade to Win 10?

Hi Loopy,
which version of PSP are you using on Windows 10 ?
PSP X7 is compatible with Windows 10 (you need to install the Service packs).

I am using Version 17.3.0.30 so all the Service Packs have been installed. I've had PSP X7 for long time. Well before I upgraded to Windows 10.
