I'm using VSP Ultimate X6 and i'm beginning some thing is fundamentally broken with the software in regards to speed.
My PC is an AMD FX 8150 (8core) 8gigs of ram with an Nvidia gtx 660 ti (windows 8.1 64bit). It's not a barn burner but at the same time, its not sluggish. I've been using VSP X6 on this machine for months now and the speed is just not usable anymore. I assumed it was the settings or the PC itself. I've upgraded CUDA drivers, added an SSD, searched the forum for answers and tips, etc etc. But still editing and rendering moves at a snail's pace. Whenever an effect is added (for example NewBlue's ColorKey Pro) playback on editing is very choppy. When rendering out at HD (1080p sources from my Canon DSLR), it slows to a crawl. VSP took nearly 20 minutes to render a 2 minute HD video with overlays, colorkeying and transitions.
I had assumed this was just par for the course and lived with it. But then I was able to get Premiere CC through my workplace. The speed is like night and day, on the exact same PC. The same sequence that took 20 minutes on VSP X6 was rendered in less than 2 on Premiere CC. I checked the processor loads and VSP was only using 1 core at medium capacity while Premiere was maxing out all 8 cores. This difference makes it impossible for me to continue using VSP. I cant help but feel like there's in issue with the coding somewhere. Because there's no way VSP should be so much slower than Premiere on the exact same computer.
I still like VSP's interface a lot more than Premiere. If I ignore the choppy playback, and turn off effects until I'm about to render, my workflow is pretty fast. But even so, once I render it out, it's like I'm in the stone ages. The other day, I literally was able to watch a 30 minute youtube video on the basics of Premiere while waiting for a less than 4 minute long video to render out from VSP.
I was thinking of upgrading again to X7 but unless the speed issue is corrected, I have no choice than to move to Premiere. Maybe there's a patch for X6 is in the works, but I don't have high hopes.
