Can somebody please help me?
Using VS pro X4 on Windows 8.1 PC
When I connect my Sony handicam to my PC and try to capture video I get the message "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device in connected"
Just before buying my new PC I was getting the same message on my other PC which was running Windows XP although in the past I had captured many videos without problems.
I am able to capture video onto the Sony programme Play Memories and onto Windows Media Player.

You could just import the files you have captured using the sony programme into VS and edit them.
This is what I'd do.
Are you using firewire?
Otherwise we need to find why VS isn't capturing, and that might be hard. The capture driver appears to be fine, or no programme would work, but you could try rolling back and using the legacy firewire driver.

Thanks, I just thought that I could capture directly into VS as I had in the past.
Don't have a firewire port on my handicam.

Re: Capturing video on VS Pro X4
there is a popular misconception about "capturing" video files - when you use VideoStudio to get videos from your camera you are never "capturing" in the true sense of the word - what ever means you use you are only copying from the camera to your hard drive.
Similarly you never "capture" into VideoStudio - the videos are never 'in' VideoStudio - they are in a folder on your hard drive.
So it follows that it makes no difference at all what software (if any with modern cameras) you use to transfer from camera to hard drive - it's just the quality that matters - and in many cases the best quality can be obtained by using the software supplied with the camera - as that has been specifically designed to work with that camera.

Hi
Two options
1 / right click the timeline and choose “Import Digital Media”
Browse for the files on your camera.
2 / use Windows Explorer to upload the files from the camera to a folder on your hard drive, then “Insert Video” to video studio timeline, from that folder.
