Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
Hello,
my VS x7 uses/loads my CPU while rendering a project with a average of 35-40%.
sources: HCV757 mp4 files (50fps/50mbit) saved on NAS which reads/writes with over 50mb/sec
Projectsettings: h264/2-pass/Fullhd/50fps/40mbit, files gets saved to internal HDD
PC:
FX8350@4,3Ghz/8GB Ram@1866Mhz/VGA=R280X
When I use ...other... software to recode...bluray quality material...my PC recodes h264 with around 65fps (also 2-pass etc...), so dont tell my my PC is slow, especially since the load is too low.
Are there any settings to accelerate VS X7?! Hardware decoding settings in the setup are useless, doesnt change a thing.
Thanks,
regards,
Michael

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
So how long does it take to render identical projects in each software?

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
Hi Michael
When you render a project to a video file the time taken changes with the type of video you are creating.
If you render your clips to “Same as the clips properties” then render should be relatively quicker than rendering to another format. The encoder having an easy time passes the data to the CPU which ramps up beyond your 40%, give the encoder some work to do and render slows.
Rendering to the same formats rather than converting will utilize the Smart Render function, reducing times.
So if you are to compare then its important to use the same formats, and that is difficult when using different software……….
You could take the Other …software “sample” to create a template in Video Studio.
Using the new template to render in VS X7.
Render Speed / Quality
When you create a template there is a Quality / Speed option generally set to 70/80%
Increasing this to 100% would slow the render but improve quality, reducing that would speed up render with a reduction in quality. The choice is yours.
50P to 25fps tests
I ran a test recording from my last holiday “MTS 50 fps video”, Knowing I would have to render to 25 fps to create a Bluray disc. When I rendered those from 50 to 25 the render times were ridiculously slow. Quality was however ok. I wont be recording to 50p again till the industry makes 50P a bluray standard allowing me to burn a disc using 50p
I cannot comment on render times, I am quite happy with what I achieve given my older pc, but I do view my Resource Manager and recognise when the process slows, anything from 30% to 99% depending on what the encoder has to do, the point being I know VS does use all resources, sometimes….
Some settings to consider……………..
Make sure the project properties match your video files properties.
Share Create Video File – “Same as first clip” will render like for like.

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
sure it is normal that it takes longer if you render on 100% quality/speed (custom settings) for example. For me the point is that it doesn`t use 100% of the CPU power...my cpu is bored as long as I use Ulead Video Studio, gets loaded between 10%-80% while rendering (no matter which profile I use). GPU Load is 0-1% (AMD 280x). With other tools, it is no problem for them to load my CPU to 100%...so they are faster. I can`t use smart rendering because I use 50mbit Panasonic source files as well as 28mbit GoPro source files (all 1080p, 50fps).

My project is 1080p50, but with custom codec settings (2-pass, 40mbit,100%quality, h264,...). When I recode a bluray with DVD Fab (2pass, 1080p, lets say 15mbps), my PC renders it with 70+ fps, which means way faster then real playtime of the bluray. This speed I never achieve with VSX7, no matter which codec settings I use.
other problem:
I have at the moment a project which ist meanwhile over 25 minutes long....and VSX7 sucks....really. My PC is bulletproofed stable (prime 95 stable, BF3+4 stable
) but VSX7 starts hanging again and again and again....
For me it looks like that I soon have to render my projekt to projekt settings, start a new project (part) and at the end I put all parts togehter with smart rendering...or tsmuxer...

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
Hi
The slower rendering is almost certainly associated with the type of video files being rendered.
If you render same as original then rendering should be faster than to different properties.
I use a Pana 900 and recently tested 50P recordings to compare quality with 25fps, my first impression was the slow render compared to 25fps.
The encoder given more work to do was the weak link in the chain, the CPU can only ramp up if its given the data to do so.
At the moment I am on my second 50P recording project tests, but sure rendering again will be slow.
As I intend to burn a Bluray disc I will in future record and edit using 25 fps
Rendering these, my CPU Video Studio usage soon ramps up to about 85%, eventually, the initial rate being 30/40%, as the render passes highly edited sections within the project the encoder is given more work to do with the effect of reducing the CPU usage.
Render options……………..
Share – Same as Project Settings—Rendering using this option was very slow, I no longer use Same as Project Settings.
Share -- Same as first Clip -- rendering times were faster
I also used Movie Profile Manager to create my own template to same as originals.
As you are working with 50P what are you intending to create, I assume a video for PC or internet playback, not a Disc.?

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
Low loading on the cpu has to mean the use of external storage during the rendering. This could be due to insufficient RAM, loading of effects, buffers getting filled and need to wait. This of course can be also due to programming inefficiency... Alcoupernst wrote:has noone an idea how to convince VSX7 to use 100% CPU?!

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
hi, thanks for answer. Well so far all files come from internal storage (sata3 device on sata 3 port), my ram is fast (8gb ddr3 1833), my CPU is...not as fast as a high end intel CPU but quiet fast (8Core AMD @ 4,2Ghz, stable and cool enough up to 4,5Ghz, but that is useless)...graphics is fast (280x)....but all this devices are doing not the half of what they would be able to.
What makes my curious is that even when I hook GPU acceleration in the programm, my GPU has 0% load while rendering...there a bug is already hidden...

Dear Corel,
I want from you feedback and a solution...my 30minutes Projekt is not really lovely to control anymore. A Video startet in the project runs for 3 seconds, then it starts stuttering....why...
You can see it on my screen-captured Video from inside the VSX 7 project

Re: Corel Video Studio x7 slow rendering
Hi coupernst
….Why…. working party fault – not using the program correctly
Try using Smart Proxy, that should smooth timeline playback.
From Video Studio press “F1” to open the help –search for Smart Proxy
After Enabling Smart Proxy, Ctrl + A will select all clips.
Right click timeline and choose “Create Smart Proxy Files”
The process may take a while -- be patient

sorry...I understand that in case of several overlaps played within the project, but not in the case of playing a part of the project with only one Videostream running. The GPU has 0% load, which means VS is not using Hardware Decoding...sorry...thats stone age...
Same while rendering the project. CPU at 40-80% load, GPU at 0% load...also stoneage.
