X6 crashes upon startup

Post by lphilpot »

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1, 64-bit
PaintShop Pro X6 64-bit, SP2

It's been working for a week, but today when I launch it I get a dialog box saying "Corel PaintShop Pro X6 (64-bit) has stopped working" and the program ends. The corresponding event in the application log is:

Code: Select all

Faulting application name: Corel PaintShop Pro.exe, version: 16.0.0.3, time stamp: 0x530713cc
Faulting module name: msvcrt.dll, version: 7.0.7601.17744, time stamp: 0x4eeb033f

Nothing has been installed since PSP was installed on 8/5/2014. So is the issue in the Visual C runtime library? Or is that just where it's showing up? It still has an older timestamp, so I don't think it's been replaced by an update, etc.:

Code: Select all

c:\>dir C:\Windows\system32\msvcrt.dll
Volume in drive C is Local Disk
Volume Serial Number is 4019-E818

Directory of C:\Windows\system32

12/16/2011 03:46 634,880 msvcrt.dll
1 File(s) 634,880 bytes
0 Dir(s) 380,064,337,920 bytes free
I've tried multiple times, but get the same exact error each time. I have not reinstalled PSP.

Anyone else run into this? I've opened a case with Corel since I still have 30 days support, but if I can fix it before they get back to me, even better.

Thanks.

Edit: Just tried launching 32-bit instead. It hasn't (yet?) crashed, but instead has apparently hung with zero CPU. One interesting (if possibly unrelated) side note... I always run PSP maximized. Now, it's about 70% of screen size and slightly off the screen to the upper right. Who knows - It might be that way normally and just maximizes itself before I notice...

Re: X6 crashes upon startup [Solved, hopefully]

Update - I have it working again.
  • 1. Backed up my PSP profile directory (C:\Users\len\Documents\My PSP Files)
    2. Shift started PSP to use the default profile
    3. Copied my custom workspace file to the default profile and loaded it
    4. Tweaked a few preferences that were reset
Now it appears to be working properly again. I've restarted it several times without error, at least the 64-bit version (haven't tried 32-bit yet, but I never use it). So far, so good.

Congratulations Len.
This shows a standardised way of approaching some problems that all should use. Too many just go and try and uninstall and reinstall and finish with even more problems then they started.
