Nikon NRW night shots are green
Took some night time shots with my Nikon P7000. Saving in both JPEG basic and raw (NRW). Saved from camera to PC (Vista Home Premium SP2). Opened in PSP X6, also SP2. All the JPEG files were normal colors. All the NRW files were very green. Opened one in the Raw Lab. Ran the tint up to maximum purple; still had a greenish tint to it. Did some research on this board for Nikon Raw Green problems and found the the Nikon D5300 had a similar problem. One of their solutions was to open the file in Nikon's NX2 editors and save the file as TIFF. Started my ViewNX2, found the night shots folder, and none of the thumbnails were green. Opened one of the NRW files, cropped it and converted it to TIFF. Saved. Now PSP X6 has no green tint for that file and was able to edit as normal.
Noticed that there is no problem with daytime shots, or indoor shots with lights. Was able to get a green tinted raw file when I shot a mostly black subject (my PC tower).
Any other NRW, night shots with green tint out there?

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
With my D7000 and now D7100 I found all my Raw files had a green tint when converted through ASP. (It became obvious when I was trialing NX-D). Maybe it's something that Corel has done and maybe it's not. But it was such an annoying issue that I ended up dropping ASP and now do my conversions with Nikon's NX-D.
I've posted on this and the ASP forum but no one has come back with a solution so I thought I was the only one.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
Hi to all with a Nikon P7000.
Unfortunately, this model is not supported in PSPX6 nor in AS 2.
That's why it's green. For other unsupported models, it can be pink or yellowish.
We have no information if this model is planned to be supported in the future.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
Thank you for the quick and definitive response.
Since the Nikon P7800 is supported by PSPX6, and its raw format is NRW, what is different?

@retiredPhil
I checked the list and a Nikon P7000 is not on the list. If it works by chance (because its codec is similar to another one), then it's good, but officially, there is no support.
For AfterShot the same.
Because this model came out in 2010, I can't see any changes.
Sorry.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
Strangely enough, I got a Facebook response to my post from Adam, Corel Support. He gave me a link to the supported cameras. Voila! The Nikon Coolpix P7000, P7100 and P7700 are supported.

Are your cameras the D7000 and D7100 or the P7000 and P7100?brucet wrote:With my D7000 and now D7100 I found all my Raw files had a green tint when converted through ASP. Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
retiredPhil they are D models. (D7000 n D7100). I used Bibble/ASP for a long time. Then when ASP was slow to upgrade I tried the beta Capture NX-D. It was only at that time, when I was comparing the results from ASP and NX-D, that the green tint became obvious. (I haven't tried the PSPx6 raw converter).
It seems that the white balance presets are completely different. ie sunny in ASP give a different result to that of NX-D. Simply put the work involved in correcting ASP/Corel white balance isn't worth my time. Nikon's NX-D also has the advantage of reading camera settings.
I've expressed my views on the ASP forum. I like ASP. Would return to ASP if their white balances wasn't broken.

Ah it's a Coolpix, yes, you need to write it too, because it's important. If the Coolpix P7000/P7100 doesn't work, then send me your Corel PIN or e-mail as private message and I will contact you. I would need a sample file.
Thanks!

@ to all with Nikon P7000/7100
@retiredPhil
I just downloaded your green file and I think that the problem is that you edited this test file in another program from Nikon's viewnx2.0
I downloaded a sample P7100 from [corrected] rawsamples.ch and this file works fine, because the Coolpix oroginal software COOLPIXP7100V1.0 was used.
This is not unusual that when RAW files were change din other programs that they are not working in other programs.
Please open an original file and it should work.
I haven't tested the file from your friend, but as soon as it's uploaded I will do so.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
@ to all with that model and other models
I've got no Nikon so I can't say how it works, but another Nikon model came in this week and the same problem.
I suppose you watch your RAWs in this viewnx2.0 (http://nikon.com/news/2010/0817_viewnx2_03.htm)
Obviously, already looking at your RAWs in this software changes the file itself. If you download the sample for NikonP7100 from http://rawsamples.ch/index.php/en/, then you will see that it works.
This is when it's green: This is if it comes from the camera: and applies for all cameras: Please contact Nikon and ask them why already using their viewer changes RAW files in a way that the camera version is overwritten and its version.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
Thank you for informing me that just looking at a file with View NX2 embeds that info in the EXIF data. However, it does not change the green characteristics. I have another NRW file that has not been viewed with NX2, that is green. I would like to upload it so that you can see what I am talking about.

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
I thought I read somewhere (probably in one of the RawTherapee user forums) that the green colour cast can occur if the Nikon has saved the RAW image using a "non-standard" bit depth.retiredPhil wrote:Thank you for informing me that just looking at a file with View NX2 embeds that info in the EXIF data. Does your camera have a setting to specify the bit depth (12-bit or 14-bit) for RAW images? If so, change the setting and see if that helps.

Yes, I think it can be eeeeeasily done...

Re: Nikon NRW night shots are green
My manual makes no mention of 12/14-bit. So I dumped a file with exiftool. It reports "Bits Per Sample" to be 12, the same as my Nikon D90 NEF files.

Then that wasn't the model the other discussions were referring to. It was worth a try, though....retiredPhil wrote:My manual makes no mention of 12/14-bit.
