VideoStudio X6 won't recognize my webcam as an HD camera.

Post by Joe M »

Greetings all, and I hope you're doing well.

I have a Logitech HD webcam, model C615, and it's connected via USB cord to my desktop. I open the device driver program that controls the webcam, and it takes perfect 16:9 high definition widescreen video - it's crystal clear and everything, the video comes out perfect.

But when I go into VideoStudio Pro x6 and use the exact same webcam connected to my desktop in the exact same manner (via USB cord) - the preview screen only pics up standard 4:3 video and cuts off both the left and right sides with black bars. This doesn't just happen on the preview screen. I've shot several 10-second sample videos, just to beta-test it before I start shooting my project videos. They all come out the same as the preview screen - in standard 4:3, not the 16:9 widescreen that I want.

It's as if the VideoStudio program doesn't recognize that the camera is HD widescreen-capable - that's the only guess I have. I've tried playing around with just about every setting the VideoStudio program has.

I've went to Options in the Capture palate, and went to Video Properties. I went to the Template tab, and the Current Profile drop-down menu, and tried all 4 of the 16:9 settings...

DVD NTSC LPCM HQ 16_9
DVD NTSC LPCM GQ 16_9
DVD NTSC AC3 HQ 16_9
And DVD NTSC AC3 GQ 16_9

All to no avail. I worry that I might have to sink more money into another camera, which I'm not thrilled about, as you can imagine. I'm trying to teach myself how to go about doing this, so any help at all is very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi

Welcome to the forums

Not sure I can help, you may be best to use the cameras software to capture your video, then import to Video Studio.
When you do that does the video display ok within Video Studio.

Can you make sure your Project Properties are set to use Mpeg2 Widescreen 16:9

Go to Preferences F6, set Show Messages when inserting First clip.
Start a new project –add one of your captured clips to the timeline, a window will open to match the properties, choose OK/Yes
Does the video show ok.
If NO --- go to Settings -- Project properties – deselect Non- Square Pixel Rendering.

Does that display as 16:9

Have to dash........
