I have a photo of a book. I want to cut that book out of the photo. Then I want to save that cutout by itself "with no background". I need to be able to import the cut out book (with no background) into an HTML animation program.
What is the best procedure for doing that?
Thank you for your help.

Well, it all depends on the "edge" of the book being well contrasted from the background. The simplest is to do a straightforward CROP - if you can!Dekade wrote:What is the best procedure for doing that?
My preferred method, for this is using Auto Selection Tool. Where the contrast is good, then a clean separation from the background is almost always perfect. Where the contrast with the background is weak - ie, the background is very similar to my "book" - then I can go into the selection Menu and EDIT that selection, by erasing, cloning the Selection "RED" and get a better defined contrast separation with the background. Cloning an area to the weak separation can also assist in me getting a better "artificial" contrast.

Re: Save a selection by itself
Grazie,
Thanks for replying. I should have added more to my initial post. Please read on. Coincidentally, I have followed most of your suggestion and succeeded in obtaining a nice selection of the book. The book (in the photo) was laying on a table at an angle so I had to use the point to point selection tool. I am a newbie and that was my best found method at this early stage of knowledge.
Here's my hangup. I get the selection made. Then I try to isolate it to another layer. Not quite sure I know what I'm doing there. Then comes the biggest problem. I export as a .jpeg. But when I open up the file to use as an image for in the HTML5 animation software there is now a solid white background. The original table is gone but now there is a white background.
What method of promoting, or layering, or masking, or what do I use to have just the book as the image file with absolutely no background at all?
Kind Regards,
Dekade

Not my area, but I am pretty sure you have to export it as a .png file not a jpeg or other type.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

pdxrjt,
At this time it looks as though the .png export did the trick. Have to experiment a little further but I think that solved it.
Thanks,
Dekade
