Desperately need to install ver. X on XP

Post by boznian2 »

Yes, version X on a Win XP machine. Lots of very good reasons, can we just leave it at that? Problem is that we can't get past the "login" or "create an account" screen. Says there has been a "system error" and exits the install. The login is good, and we've tried creating a new account to no avail. We have tried a "Premium CD_Retail" version, Trial version and one that is just psp10.exe and all do the same thing. Is there a limit to how many times you can try? Is it because it is no longer supported? Is it because the product does not show up in our account anymore? ANY ideas on how we can get this re-installed? We absolutely must be able to us this version and the 100 or so scripts that we have customized for it. Any help with this would be much appreciated!

Have you tried installing it in safe mode?

What exactly is the system error message you are getting? Does it have a name or number for the error? Is it a Windows XP error message or is it on the Corel installer? More details necessary, but it appears to be a problem with the installer and Windows XP.

@ boznian and all others who are wondering if we do things that hinder to install an old version, no we don't do things like that.
I work for the Corel UK Support. I will not give technical support through this forum and my answer is only related to this thread.

Just throwing things out here: anti-virus and/or firewall problems? Right click installation file and Run as administrator (don't remember if XP has that). Same for: make a shortcut to the installation .exe and run in compatibility mode.
Whatever happens, good luck.

-We had not tried a safe mode install.
-It was a PSP installer error.
-No AV product installed yet.

At one point last year we had it working on a 32-bit Win7 machine that subsequently died. We tried getting it running again on a Win7 box and had it running off the initial install, until it said we needed to "activate our product". Tried, then it would no longer start the app. Tried re-installing and kept getting the installer "system error" message. So we went back to a fresh install of WinXP and again it installed fine the first time. Then after a shut down and 2nd attempt to run it would give the graphic that "You have 30 days left in your trial period" on one side and "thank you for purchasing this product, please activate" on the other. Again the activation fails. So we blew it away again, re-installed XP, and found a download site with an old ver. X download on it. Installed from that and used our activation code, so far it has worked. Fingers crossed.

We think our original download file has become slightly corrupt somehow?
