Saved location of a created Menu
Hi,
I am using VS X4. After I created a menu during Create Disk and then close it, VS X4 automatically "saved" it. Where could I find the "saved" menu so that I want to use it again and don't want to re-create the same menu from scratch.
Thanks for any help. Bimbing

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Hi
The create disc process is using the actual project, so when you close the burner module you are returned back to the edit timelines, effectively transferring the menu data back to the project.
Now save the project using File Save or Save as, That should save the Create Disc menu stage.
When you open that project again, going to share create disc should show the previous menu structure.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
I am wondering if Bimbing is wanting to add an edited menu to the menu gallery as a 'Favourite'...?

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Hi Ken, No, I do not want to add my edited Menu to the Gallery. I had created a disk with 6 .mpg parts. The .vsp files were played and I found that there were corrections to be made (footage trimmed, etc.). Then after processing to .mpg files, I Created Disk with those 6 .mpg files. When the created DVD disk was played I noticed that some captions were shifted although Ripple editing was set.Ken Berry wrote:I am wondering if Bimbing is wanting to add an edited menu to the menu gallery as a 'Favourite'...?
Apparently, Ripple Editing works when you add a video but when you trim a footage, captions after the trimmed footage do not "ripple". It just looked as if they move to the left by as much as the trimmed footage.
Now I want to correct those out of place captions and background sound and burn a new disk. I don't want to create a new Menu but just use the previously created Menu. That's why I am wondering where that Saved Menu is. Bimbing

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Thanks, Trevor. After the Burner module was closed, it did "saving file" by itself. As far as I remember, it did not give me a choice to do a Save As. In this case, is there a possibility to retrieve the Menu Project (Structure) and where would it be? In any case, next time I burn a Disk, I will pay attention to the Edit Timeline. Re: Saved location of a created Menu
There is no location from which you can retrieve just the menu as far as I know. The menu structure is saved as part of the project (vsp) file when you select Save As from the main menu under File'
Do not rely on the "automatically" save to save your project. Do the Save As manually.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Hi Bimbing
You can open an existing project and re-use the saved menu to burn the same disc.
You cannot save the menu structure to use for a different disc / project.
You have to create the menu for each new project.
Within the burner module, it does allow you to Save your menu as a New Template, but only saves the structure not the menu details.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
The reason for wanting to retrieve the created menu was for the menu details for the same disk project...! I used one of VS X4 thumbnail menus and rearranged the thumbnails to fit 8 of them. Then each thumbnail shows a 20 sec "video" and below the thumbnail a short description of the footage it contained. So, it would be nice if I could retrieve this created menu for the same disk after revising some of the underlying .mpg files because it had taken me a while for creating the menu. If only the structure was saved, I might as well create a new menu.lata wrote:Hi Bimbing

Thank you for the clarification.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Have you actually tried opening the project which you used to create the first disc and then going to the "Create Disc" module - whenever I do that the previously created menu is still there waiting for any more changes.

The problem is that I exited VS. So, when I ran VS the next day and go to "Create Disk" the "Add Media +" screen appeared. The previous media were no longer there.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
But did you first open the Project file in the Edit module? Or when that Add Media screen appears as part of the burning process, have you tried adding the project .vsp file (which you can do...)?

Yes, I opened the .vsp in the Edit module but proceeded to Create Video File first to .mpg. Then the collection of .mpg files (they are related as I divide my project into modules (parts) of about 30 min each) were subjected to Create Disk.

Re: Saved location of a created Menu
Hi Bimbing
This is the process I use.
1 / Share Create Video file DVD, this renders my project/s to a mpeg2 video file/s.
I may render more than one mpeg2, but the total size has to be below 4.3 Gb
2 / Start a new project – nothing in the timeline.
3 / Share – Create Disc –DVD this opens the burner module
4 / Add media – Add video Files –selecting the Mpeg2 files created in “1” above.
5 / Create my menu- generally I use Thumbnail menus.
6 / From the Project Settings Cogwheel – lower left – make sure “Do not Convert MPEG files” is checked
Navigation Controls
Set my required options lower panel for Navigation Controls, usually “back to menu” but may use “Continue to play next Clip
7 / On the final window I choose “Create disc Image”
This saves an ISO file to the hard drive.
I play the iso using VCL Media Player to check quality.
8 / Using Tools – Burn from Disc Image ISO – I burn a disc.
Please note because we are using compliant Mpeg2 video files, when we press burn the process starts with Convert Menu.
There should NOT be Convert Title because of the type of files we are using. (Mpeg2 Compliant for DVD)
Again the total Gb size of all mpeg2 files should be below 4.3 Gb
Hope this helps.

I really appreciated the detailed steps for burning the disc from the original .vsp files. I also never burn directly to a disk but do Creat disk Image and checked with Windows Media Player.lata wrote:Hi Bimbing

Since my project was about 4 hrs long the total .VOB files amounted to over 8 GB but when I used Nero 7 Burn module it said that it takes 7.55 GB. I did burn the project to a DVD +R DL disk (double layer).
I did print out your stepwise instructions. Thank you very much, Trevor.
