Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
I bought Win DVD Pro 11 and installed it on my new Windows 8 pc. When playing back a DVD my PC came to a total standstill. I downloaded SP3 Patch but when I installed it, it installed for a while and gave a quick message that the Serial number is wrong. It then uninstalled Win DVD from my PC. I am a legal owner and bought my license, what could be wrong? Hope someone can help me. I cannot contact Corel support as I bought it in 2012.

Hi Luna Esterhuizen
You can try Corel Support on Facebook, as far as I know staffed by Corel employees.
I am also having some problems with WinDVD Pro playing BD Folders I approached Facebook and am now talking to support, but I think it may be my pc that has a conflict so I am seriously considering restoring the OS to a backup, or maybe ultimately reinstalling.
I am running Windows 7, the SP3 I think is for W8, doesn’t seem to work for you.
Things go better when I run the trial version, ???
Luna, access your Corel account to view the registered products, you should be able to check your serial number there.

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Hi Trevor,
Thanks, I gave up the last time, but after receiving your reply I gave it another chance. I installed Win DVD and without starting it installed SP3. It did the same and gave me the error message "invalid key".
I then reinstalled it and tried to run it after installation but then everything my entire system came to a halt. I had to switch it off at the power button. I then booted up again and ran the application. Everything worked perfectly, I tested several different video format.
I then ran SP3 installation again and then the same message appeared. It uninstalled Win DVD automatically.
So there must be a problem with SP3. I did check my serial numbers and its definitely correct. Thanks for you help.
Regards
Luna

Hi Luna Esterhuizen
What's your WinDVD 11 version? Pro or Standard? What's the exact version number you have? (ex: 11.6.1.9)
Regards,
Aris

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Hi Luna Esterhuizen
First apologies I did not see your last reply on 4th August.
Aris
Thanks for your help in this matter.
I just viewed my version as 11.0.0.342, that is the trial version, I was advised to use this by Corel Support.(case 02118960)
I then checked for updates, non available, to be expected running the trial.
Then the program froze with “WinDVD not responding”
I had to closed the program via Windows Explorer

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Thanks Aris
I must say I totally gave up with Win DVD and installed VLC player to do the job. When I received your reply today I decided to give it another chance.
In the meanwhile I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it could simply because of that, that the installation succeeded. Here's what I've done:
I installed WinDVD again and with my first run of the program it could not start and it showed a black rectangle (see screenshot). I managed to close this by right clicking the icon on the taskbar and close.
I then ran it from the shortcut on the desktop and got a message saying Win DVD needs the following Window feature: DirectPlay and I said "skip the installation" ( see screenshot). It opened a DVD and played it without problems.
When I tried to open WinDVD again the same screen appeared and I installed the feature from the option screen. It seems as this was the solution to the problem as it opens now without any problems.
I'm scared to run the 11.6 patch now because it uninstalled WinDVD when I did it the last time.
Thank for your reply at least I can use WinDVD again.
Regards
Luna

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Hi Luna
We are used to the service packs updating a program with maybe a small fix.
When installing SP3 it provides a full replacement program.
If you view the size of the files you will see SP3 as 127 Mb with the original at 124Mb, at least that’s what I see.
So yes SP3 will uninstall the program first, then re-install the new software.

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Hi Aris
Case Number 02118960
I am unable to play BD Folders unless I run the trial version of this program.
Installing any service packs will not play BD Folders.
Service Pack 4 has not fixed this problem

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
It's work on my side. I didn't try the trial version but it looks like the full build patch which may not cover the trial version.

Re: Win DVD 11 SP 3 not installing
Hi Aris
Sorry I think you misunderstood my problem.
Any version does NOT play BD Folders which include the disc menu.
I have to use the trial version to play BD Folders with menu.
Yes all versions will play a disc, any disc, that is not the problem.
-------------------------
Before burning a Bluray disc I create the BD folder, play that to check quality including the menu function, then burn a disc using the BD folder.
That way I don't ruin disc, no coasters.......
Can you confirm you can play BD Folders including the menu using WinDVD
