Hi, I'm getting this error on a new installation of X7 Ultimate. I'm only adding say 30mins of HDV to a project that I will be editing down to around 5 mins. I can't currently add any more clips after the project gets up to 19 minutes. Can anyone help to remove the limit? Thanks in Advance."The total duration is greater than the maximum possible project duration. Some clips will not be added into the project. [15114:4:0]."

Hi
Very strange
Can you please update your profile to include your pc specification.
Can you say if your hard drives are formatted using Fat32, this has a 4 Gb limit.
That is the only thing that comes to mind at the moment.

Re: Maximum possible project duration in VSX7
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not at home at the min so will have to remind myself of my PC Spec later. What I can tell you is that my spec has not changed recently and my method of processing has not altered either. The last project I did worked fine (albeit that would have been done with VSX6). I even went back and tried to create a project on VSX6 but had the same error. I import my video from a DV tape into individual scene clips (each approx. 5mb to 150mb in size) and then assemble and edit within VS. I did read somewhere that maybe the "timecode of a clip has got corrupt" (???)...but how to find out which one out of 100 or so clips would be a challenge.

Re: Maximum possible project duration in VSX7
Hi
It does seem a little odd that the problem is with both versions, so I guess its not the software.
It may be a corrupt timecode but don’t think this issue has been reported before.
Add half of the clips, 1 to 50, if ok add another 25% --51 to 75 and so on.
And as far as you know nothing has changed on the PC?
Regarding Fat 32 with Gb sizes in mind, whats the total size of the clips you are trying to use

Re: Maximum possible project duration in VSX7
FWIW, I use HDV regularly and have never had this problem, regardless of the length of a project or the number of clips in it. Typically, I will often capture up to an hour's HDV via Firewire using a program called HDVSplit which -- as its name suggests -- splits the video by scene. My scenes rarely run longer than about 20 seconds, and more normally around 10 seconds, so there are lots of them -- often several hundred which I have no trouble adding to the timeline.
Now your problem might be -- as you suggest -- something to do with a corrupt time code. I cannot say. I don't do anything special with my HDV mini-DV tapes, nor with my camcorder (Canon HV20) -- so the video I capture comes as it is from the camera.
You say you reach the limit at around 19 minutes... Is it one specific clip you are trying to insert at that point, or does it happen with any clip you try to insert? Have you tried taking out the last clip or two which you successfully inserted into the timeline, and replacing them with others. Can you then go beyond 19 minutes???
How do you capture your HDV?

Re: Maximum possible project duration in VSX7
I wonder if the limit is not related to a DVD content limit. HDV~ 3.5 MB/s equals~ 4GB after 20 minutes. Could X7 "suppose" the video has to fill a DVD if the project settings are in DVD mode>

Re: Maximum possible project duration in VSX7
Ah, brilliant...your suggestions worked. Why didn't i think of that?
I tried to insert the next clip required and got the error, I then tried with the next and it inserted fine so then bulk inserted the remaining 50 clips with no problems at all!
Going back to the clip that gave the error... i noticed that the length was wrongly stated at over 26hrs!! (on the browse media file dialog box).
I can bring it into the VS media library ok and play it and crop it to it's actual size of only 10secs. It then inserts to my timeline ok.
I think I thought like Erdna that 20mins is usually the limit to squeeze HD onto a DVD so thought it might be something to do with that limit, although as I said before, I've never seen the problem before.
Many many thanks anyway..I can get on with some editing
Just as an aside, I too use the HDVSplit program to import HDV via Firewire. I think I'd seen your recommendation a long time ago Ken. It's version 0.77 beta and has always worked great. I didn't have much luck trying to use VS's capture method in the past.. getting many dropped frames.
Cheers, Tim
