Problem with brushes

Post by smish »

Hi everyone
I've used PSP for a good few years now and this has completely baffled me. The last two times I've tried to use it, the Lighten/Darken brush and all the other brushes (Saturation, Dodge, etc etc) have some weird effect on them. Everything comes out like little dots so if I make the brush quite big and go over a section of a photo, it will give it a waffle texture. If I draw a line it's like 2 lines of equally spaced dots. I've played around changing Hardness, Step, Density etc and nothing seems to change it. I've reset preferences and I'm stumped. Please help!
Thanks in advance

Is "texture" turned on? I realize this should have no bearing on those brushes, but I am curious.

Where would I find that? I'll have a look!

I've finally found out what it was. I think you were right about Texture. It was showing checks/squares in the little swatch box instead of a solid colour. Wouldn't have thought that would affect brushes (aside from the obvious ones like paintbrush) but there we go. Thanks for your help!
