Import library from x5 into x7, can't find file

Post by westlight »

I've just upgraded my VS X5 to X7, 64 bit. I exported my X5 library to a folder I created on an external drive. X5 created two folders inside the folder that I created when I did the Export. When I tried to import the library into X7 I'm unable to. When I click on any of those folders to do the Import Library I get the following.
!Files import error: Unknown error, please check imported folder and make sure it is not empty.
I checked the folders and there are many files inside each of the folders. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I'm assuming that I can import my X5 library into X7. I have not been able to click on any specific "file" only the folders where the files are located. Any suggestions? I'm going into : Settings > Library Manager > Export Library in X5 then Import Library in X7. Seems like it should be pretty straight forward.

Thanks!

Corel messed up somewhere in the last couple of versions and it is no longer possible to export a library from X5 and import it into X7.

The quickest and easiest way around it is to open X5 with an empty time line - drag all the clips from a library pane down into the timeline - do a "File >> Save" and create a temporary .vsp file - close X5 and open X7 - open your temporary .vsp file and drag all the clips up into the library - repeat for each different library

You can multi-select using the standard Windows left click on the first and shift+click on the last - even in the timeline

Thanks Brian....Was afraid of that. Seems like a no brainer to make this an option. I'm also trying to import the Ultimate Pkg. filters from X5 into X7 and can't figure that out, if it's even possible.

Take care!

Since X5 is a 32 bit program and your X7 the 64 bit version, the extra X5 filters you are trying to import will not work anyway.

Hi guys

I have had problems in exporting my X7 library as a backup then later trying to import back to X7 to find the process fails, sometimes.
Not found a reason why that should happen, but clearly I would not rely on the Library Export function to backup my libraries.

Not that I use the library as a permanent store……….
