smart sound

Post by magoo 72 »

I had a problem with my computer, I deleated my Video studio Pro X5 from my computer, as it was not working properly. I had to take computer in to be fixed and had them reinstall my Pro X5, as I was unable to reinstall the program. Now I find that I can not use my smart sound files, in my program. When I click on a sound file, hit properties, I see that notice " program to open file, unknown". I search for VideoStudio to open file. VideoStudio is not listed as a program I can use. I checked my default program, I find that VideoStudio is not listed in the default section with all my other programs. My question do you have a program I can d/l to open these SXL files or is it possible to insert the cd that came with my program into my computer, to fix this problem? I am not able to figure out how to insert VideoStudio Pro X5 in the default section. Thank you for your time on this matter. Magoo72

Hi magoo 72

And welcome to the forums.

I am a little confused with your comments regarding Smart Sound, are you referring to audio clips within the library?
Or are you trying to open a sound file from your hard drive.?

What are these SXL files.?
Unfortunately I do not have access to video studio as the program is busy rendering

When they installed Video Studio for you did you provide them with your installation discs?

Are you able to run Video Studio from your desktop icon or the Start – All Programs menu.?

Hi Trevor, yes I gave the computer people the cd, but to be honest, I really don't know what they did to get the videostudio Pro X5 installed on to my computer. Yes I start the program with a desktop icon. What I am trying to do, is use the audio clips that you download after installing the videostudio program and use them in my videos. You raise a great question when you ask where are the clips, am I trying to open them on my hard drive?. I know so little about computers, I am not sure how to answer that question. Before, when I first started to use this program, I didn't have to do anything but double click I think on the individual audio clip and it played, its been awhile since I used VideoStudio X5 program. The smart sound audio clips were addition to my videostudio program.. which also has some audio clipsI that come with the program. I hope I answered your questions. Thanks for any help you can give me. Magoo 72

Files with the extension SXL are not used in VideoStudio - I have none of them at all on my computer - where are you finding these files

Genuine Smartsound files can only be used by opening the "Auto Music" function accessed by clicking the appropriate icon under the preview window - the smartsound files which have the extension .sds cannot be inserted straight into the timeline - they have to be used by the smartsound function which knits beginning middle and end together to make a sound file of the length you have specified.

The only files you can add direct to the timeline yourself are .wav. mp3 or .mpa files.

Hi

OK run Video Studio X5
Sample Clips

Select the Media library Samples showing the Video Images and Audio files, the three icons at the top left being highlighted in yellow.
Select any clip having the music symbol and press the play button below the preview screen. That clip should play.

Drag the audio clip to the timeline and play again
Drag an Image to the timeline
Drag a Video clip to the timeline

Are you able to do the above without errors/problems.

Auto Music
Press the “Auto Music” icon below the preview screen, float your mouse for a tool tip. ( not Sound Mixer)
This opens the Smart Sound library section, I would expect to be prompted to install updates, do this.
The Auto Music panel shows below the library.

If you are asked to install QuickTime then do so.

All the above should work without problems, no errors
---------------------------------------------------
You mention downloaded audio clips, can I assume these are the Bonus Content pack from the Corel Guide Do More downloads?
If so they are saved to your documents folder structure, here
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Bonus Content

Good morning Brian, Trevor.. After spending two days working on my computer. I have learned about my videoStudio x5 program. I appreciate all your attempts to help. I have a problem with the smart sound files. Some time ago, I had someone work on my computer, they made changes in that there are two administrators on my computer. I guess it was easier when making changes to my computer. I had a guy work several hours on my computer Saturday. The folder with all the video music files, shows up in the test (administrator) programs folder. I can play the audio files there with windows media player. I even tried burning a copy of the files on a cd. and then reinstalling back into the computer. I can play the files, but my computer does not recognize the SDS files which you probably already know. I learned after spending many hours yesterday, sigh. Any way after opening the VideoStudio X5 program. When I click on the auto music icon I get the following message. the folder C\users\ test\ documents\Corel Video Studio Pro\video music\cannot be found. Please mount the drive which contains this folder. maybe using baby steps, you could explain what I should do. My wife is sure that there should be a law not allowing old people to use the computer..... Quick player I don't have it on my computer, downloading that program would help? Brian and Trevor, Thanks again for your time and patience, magoo

Hi

Either Smart Sound has not been installed or the database requires re-building
After receiving the “cannot be found “ message can you see the Auto Music panel below the library.
Select the words SmartSound Quicktracks to open a SmartSound Quicktracks 5 window.

From the Album tab you should have at least two Albums, Core Foundations and New Standards.
The Folder tab should show this as the location of the library files, please note Program Data folder is hidden by the operating system, you have to change that, open any folder on the hard drive..Tools Options View –Show hidden files and Folders

C:\ProgramData\SmartSound Software Inc

From the About tab Rebuild Smart Sound Database
Try running that option.

For the time being try the above, I can provide images of that window if you think that will help.

The easiest way would be to re-install the entire program?

Can I just reiterate that - you CANNOT play the smart sound SDS files by clicking on them in their folder - if I do that I also get a message that my computer does not know what to play them with.

Neither can you play them by putting them in the timeline of VideoStudio.

They will only play if you use the Auto Music icon within VideoStudio

and I hope that your use of the word 'registry' is simply a lack of knowledge on your part - the computer 'registry' is a very special part of your computer where even quite experienced users tread very carefully - I hope that you really mean the computer folder system as viewed in 'My Computer' or 'File Explorer'

Hi Trevor, I would like to let you know where I am. This is probably so elementary that I am embarrassed. when I go to my folders and click on documents, there is a folder named Smart sound library. when you open this folder it shows all the files and libraries, including the sound files. When you close the folder and all the program folders are listed, if you scroll down to the bottom of this page there is a listing... sound files(62) beneath that... C\Program Data\Smart Sound Software Inc. All The sound files for the smart sound are listed. close the documents folder out Click on computer. Open C.. open the users folder, Click on test, open the documents folder, there is a folder... Smart sound library. open folder, inside all the libraries and sound files listed. I believe that all the files are in my computer. I just don't know what to do. When I open Video Studio ProX5. I am able to bring in music from my music files if I want. I can use the music files in the program by dragging them into the timeline. When I click on auto music, the smart sound quick tracks appears. click on smart sound quick tracks, a box opens up. Click on albums.. core foundations and online purchases are listed. Across from core foundations it shows partially available down below I can add files. I am afraid of what I have to do once I click add. click on folders The common Smartsound application folder is where data files are stored so other Smartsound applications can share the information. C\ProgramData\Smartsound Software Inc\ beneath that notice click here to browse this folder when you open this folder all the files and libraries are shown. Below in the Sound file Folders box there is a folder C\programData\Smart Sound Software Inc\. Yesterday I went here goofed things up. Yesterday I I had two folders in this bow C\Users\test\Documents\Corel Video Studio Pro\video Music By mistake I deleated this folder. This is the spot where I don't know how to go forward to finish. Thanks for all your time and effort. I am sure this is elementary. sigh. Jack

Hi Jack

I agree with Brian that there is some confusion on how to use Smart Sound.

The SmartSound files are in a folder C\programData\Smart Sound Software Inc\
There is no reason to access that folder, they will play from the Auto Music tab.

Smart Sound music files are seperate to your own music files, you cannot add your music files to Smart Sound, nor as Brian said add SDS Smart Sound directly to the library.

I was a little confused why you received the message that "C\users\ test\ documents\Corel Video Studio Pro\video music\cannot be found"
This appears to be a temporary User Account called "test"

Ok lets start again

run Video Studio X5
Select the autoMusic icon (do you get any errors or warnings)

from the Auto Music tab click Play Selected Music--does the music play.

The Auto Music tab has several drop down boxes, are you aware or their use as these can be confusing.

set
Scope to Owned Titles
Filter to Albums
Sub Filter to Core Foundations

select the music clip from the Track

Press Play Selected Music

Hi Lata, after reading your last message, I have no idea about where the following items scope to owned titles filter to albums sub filter to core foundations where they are or what to do with them.lol. The user account was put in my computer, some time ago when a guy was working on my computer,. When I click on my auto music tab the folder opens up, am I supposed to go to the folder open it up click on libraries, choose a audio file highlight it? Is it supposed to play? To get to the audio files I have to click on the folder right? But the box with the file in the folder section says ADD... to add folder , when I click on the add button I don't know what to do,when the other box opens up. I hope you understand what I am saying. Thanks sir for your efforts Regards Jack

Hi Jack

We are still confusing Auto Music with normal sound/audio files within the library

Do not select Auto Music icon
When you view the library right of preview screen, this contains Video Photo and Audio clips, make sure the icons at the top are highlighted/selected showing yellow. All types of clips will show
To the left is the Add option, this allows you to create a new library page
Do that and name it Jacks Clips.
To the right of the Add is the Open folder icon to Import Media Files.
Browse your pc for your personal audio files, MP3 or Wav are the most common they should show as thumbnails in the library.
You can of course simply view the Samples library.

To use a clip simply drag it to the timeline, or right click a clip and choose “Insert to”

The Auto Music is a separate option, when you select that option the panel opens below the library.
I do not think you are intending to use the auto music and it is causing lots of confusion.
