Library missing menu items, imported files

Post by RLGDumfries »

I am using Video Studio Pro x7 (for the first time) with Windows 7 Home Premium.

All work was performed under the library's 'edit' tab.

Started with the Quick Start section of the manual, imported three video files from my hard drive into the library and created a folder to store them. Played around with the timeline and clipping videos. The next day, I removed all of the videos files from the library to repeat the process to make sure I understood what I was doing. This is where I ran into problems.

First of all, the '+ add' button was missing, as was the folder I had created. I imported a video file (several times) and it never appeared in the library. I checked and re-checked the 'Hide titles', 'hide videos' and 'hide music' buttons but no change. I reset the library settings three times and no change. Also reset the program settings to their defaults with no change. The videos, and the '+ add' button were still missing.

What am I doing wrong or not doing?

Thanks

Hi

And welcome to the forums

Well I don’t think you are doing anything wrong, you cannot really loose the library.
I guess the program could be faulty, then again I don’t understand that.

Have you rearranged the layout, press F7 on your keyboard to reset the workstation to its default setup. Does that make a difference.

The vertical icons to the right of the preview screen, select the top icon (Media) to show the media library.

At the top of the Library are three icons adjacent to the orange (Get More), make sure all three are selected, showing yellow.

When you say you “reset the library”, if that was from Settings Library Manager, then you will indeed delete all user defined library folders, the Plus + sign should however still be available.

I reset the library via settings library manager. Pressing the F7 key has no impact. The top vertical icon (media) is selected and the samples are displayed. The rest of the vertical icons I show are: Instant Project, Transition, Title, Graphic, filter, Path. Of the four icons adjacent to the orange (on the top right side of the screen), two are selected, the third shows the list view and the fourth sorts the tiles, both of which I did not select.

However, I can now see the video I imported (along with all the samples) via the folder icon immediately to the right of the top vertical 'media' icon. I still do not show +add button.

Since I created a created a folder in my first 'walk thru', and moved my videos into it, is it possible that I am still inside the folder (or does library reset get rid of it)? And that could explain not being able to add a folder, since I would be in effect adding a sub folder, which is not allowed?

You don't seem to be talking about enough icons along the top of your library pane - look at my screen shot below - note there are 3 icons between the import media file icon and the orange button - to see ALL media then all three need to be gold (selected)

When you click on the import media folder you say you can see your videos - presumably in the explorer folder - click on a video and then OK and then the video should appear in the library pane.

are you confusing Windows Explorer folders and VideoStudio library folders they are not the same and are not directly connected - a folder in explorer does not equal a library folder in VideoStudio - although that doesn't explain where your +add button has gone.

No, I AM NOT confusing windows explorer with VideoStudio library folders.

Your view is very similar to mine EXCEPT.....I do not show the column BETWEEN the vertical icons and the Library panel. The area I am missing is that which contains the +Add button', Samples, School, USA..., Thailand..., and browse at the bottom. Tried adjusting the width of the vertical icons panel and the Library panel but cannot expose the missing panel.

If you look closely at Brian's photo above, you will see a thin pale grey vertical line to the immediate left of all the thumbnails. I suspect yours has somehow or other been dragged over to sit to the immediate right of the the black vertical column containing the Media, Instant Projects, Transitions etc icons. If you hover your mouse over the grey line (if it is there!!) the cursor changes into a pair of vertical lines with arrows on either side. Left click and hold, then drag the grey line to the right. This should expose the + Add, Samples etc buttons.

If you can't see that grey line, then look down to the bottom left corner of the library window -- see the red arrow in my attached image. Left Click on that arrow button (which points right). That will reveal your missing column as well.

I'd noticed that arrow but kept trying to drag it, to no avail. However, in a 'oh yeah' moment, with a great assist from Ken, I doubled click on the arrow and voila, what was lost, is now found.

Thanks to all for helping.

Hi Guys
and thanks Ken

I had suggested pressing F7 which as you know switches the display back to the default layout.
However this does not reset that panel, very strange……must remember that “hide library navigation panel”

Resetting the layout via the menu settings library default path also does not restore the panel. This makes me feel somewhat better.

Its simply amazing that we can use the program and miss such a simple thing.
That left facing arrow, lower left of library has been there all the time, yet I don’t use that and simply not been aware that you can hide the panel.

I would have thought that F7 would have restored that
