patches unavailable for all versions?

Post by bgamd »

I've been a registered user of Videostudio since the original version 7 but I am losing patience recently.
I have been successfully using Pro X5 and decided to upgrade to a new Windows 8.1 computer. After installing Pro X5 (Boxed version) , when I try to apply the updates it says that there aren't any. The Corel support (US) web site says there are two service packs for Pro X5 but it is impossible to download them.

I thought I would be smart and was able to download them from the Corel Canadian support site. The patches won't work for an unknown reason.

Question: How can I tell if my Pro X5 version already has the patches installed?

I thought I would be even smarter and installed a (Boxed) Pro X7 version. At the moment, it is totally unusable! Crash, crash, crash. I have read on this forum about issues regarding importing mts files from a Canon camera. I also have this problem. I have seen this same importing error problem occur on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines. I have also noticed that the preview pane playback is very jerky when capturing from a camera to a firewire connection (Windows 7, 3.1ghz dual core, 4gb RAM).

The playback is NOT jerky at all when I capture , using the same machine and method described above, if I use Pro X5!

If I can get the Pro X5 updates issue resolved, I am staying with that until they get the rather large bugs out of Pro X7.

There does appear to be something very wrong on the US and Canadian sections of the Corel Website, a number of users have said they can not find patches there - try switching to the United Kingdom site - I can still see patches for X5 and X6 there

Hi Guys

I had also found a problem in the past but seemed to depends on how you navigate to the download pages, seems to work today?
Try these links………
http://www.corel.com/corel/?storeKey=ca support tab

Canada
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index.jsp?pgid=800161
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=4700015

As far as I can tell the download links are the same as UK site.

I'm a little confused by this reference to capture by firewire... What has that to do with capturing .mts which is of course AVCHD. That is not "captured" but merely transferred from camcorder to computer as with any other file. Firewire capture implies that the original video is HDV which is of course a special form of HD mpeg-2 (though not directly Blu-Ray compliant). I am thus just wondering why you refer to Firewire...?

Thank you for the replies.

First, thanks to advice from another another post in this forum, it appears that I have solved the Pro X7 import mts files problem by updating the driver for my Intel HD Graphics 4600 display adapter in my very new computer.

I apologize for the confusion in my message. The capture by firewire card issue is unrelated to the import mts files issue.

To convert old VHS tapes to DVD, I use a VCR hooked up to an older Sony camera (DCR-TRV 350). The DCR-TRV 350 can pass through analog video while converting it to digital.
A firewire connection is used to capture to videostudio. I like the quality I get from this conversion. The jerky playback I had experienced in the VS Pro X7 preview pane now seems to have resolved itself. I do not know why. This is on a Windows 7 machine that I did NOT update the display adapter driver because windows indicates that the driver is up to date.

My one question still remains unanswered. Is there a way to tell if updates for Pro X5 have been installed?
I did go to the Corel Canadian web site and was able to download two patches for Pro X5 labeled VSProX5_SP1.exe and VSProX5_SP2.exe.
I moved them to the root directory of the Corel Videostudio Pro X5 program.
When I try to execute either patch, I receive the message "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate."

That is a little different and not quite what you said in the first place - that error message is Corel's strange way of telling you the patch is already installed.

But if you go to "Corel guide >> Product info (gear wheels)>>About Corel VideoStudio" the version number will be displayed and the second block of numbers will tell you what patch you have installed - for instance 15 -0 -# - # shows X5 with no patches installed while 15 - 1- # - # shows SP1 installed and 15 -2 - # - # will tell you SP2 is installed

Hi

From your reply it appears you have both patches installed for X5.

There is a patch for X7 but for the time being I would advise not installing that patch.

And for what its worth I too have problems with jerky capture when using Firewire and Video Studio X7.
The good news is that it does not seem to affect the final captured video files, only the preview during capture.

And can you update your profile to include the details of your very new computer, thanks…
