VSX7 Preview Bug

Post by Sonic Fields »

Has anyone else noticed the following bug?

When playing preview in HD - no problem.
Pause playback - preview then reverts to displaying SD - hit HD button 'OFF' - then preview switches to display HD.
In other words when preview is paused it displays the opposite effect to that indicated by the HD button!

Hi
Not noticed that, then again not really used the HD option as playback has always been ok.

HD Preview is available when playing the project not individual clips.
Selecting the HD button highlights with a black background, I assumed this to be full HD playback.
The preview screen is always sharper when play is paused, when played the preview screen displays a reduced quality, you can see that with all versions of VS the HD option improves that playback quality.

I compared a still image as its easier to see the quality change.
With HD selected there is no reduction in quality when the project is played.
Without HD you can see the preview quality reduce as you press play.

Yes you can see the change in quality as you select / deselect HD

I think its working correctly, it’s the change in quality when playing the project that’s confusing the issue.

There are three qualities
1 / top quality, no playback no HD
2 / HD selected, paused or played the same quality.
3 / poor playback quality no HD

Complicated to explain

lata,

Not with the one I'm looking at. Project preview is paused, with HD button highlighted it displays an SD image, when HD button not highlighted it definitely displays the HD image. I can switch it back and forth and it displays the opposites to what the HD button indicates. Absolutely no problem when the preview is actually playing, it's just when it's in the 'paused' condition.

[Edit] Yes Highlighted 'HD' with black BG is 'ON' - Unlit 'HD' with greyed out BG is 'OFF'

Ok
I have just double checked what I see.

HD selected, paused image looks sharper

With the HD deselected playback reduces the quality as seen from the paused clip.

With the HD selected (black background) Playback quality remains the same as the paused clip. No change in quality.

Maybe it’s the source material that shows a greater or lesser quality change?

I just did a similar check on different source material used in same project. All in project preview 'paused' condition.

I know I have a weird mixture of material here in this project, but this opposite effect is quite dramatic in both Full HD 1080p (all intra) and TIF photos, and would you believe an early imported MPG (PAL DVD) file, where admittedly the same effect is barely visible. So could be source material related; but even so why the opposite effect to what it should be?

The paused display when the HD button is 'OFF', is of excellent quality; obviously far better than when the HD preview is actually playing, as it should be as it's displaying a single HD frame, but it's not in accordance with the HD button!
