I have well over 100 hours invested in my latest project and I have just had this same error show up and now I cannot reopen my project.

I have previously used VSx4 and I have been using VSx7 for other projects for some time and this is the first time this problem has occurred. Although this project is a lot longer than any of my other ones.

The program has locked up a few times during this project but I have just closed it through task manager and I have been able to reload my project without any problems however just as it locked up this time I did a "save" and when I reopened VS and then tried to load my project I got this error message.

Every time I made a change in the editing I did a "save" which is what I have always done without any problems. The last "save" was only about 5 minutes before the lock up.

I was within about an hour of finishing this project and I was putting the finishing touches to the music when this happened and I have only used the files in "auto music".

Is there any way this project can be recovered or have I wasted all my time?

Hi Greg

Sorry you are having problems opening the VSP project file.
If you have read the previous posts you will realise we have not identified a reason for this problem.
I can only assume it’s a corrupt clip or type of clips being used , but cannot confirm that till we can find a way of opening the VSP, catch 22.
You did say the program crashed a few times which does not look good, and points to your clips

Can you zip your VSP and attach to your post, I can try opening the VSP, if successful will give me a relink as I don’t have your files. But can view the types, MP3 audio using the lame codec can be problematic (just thinking out loud here)
I have to say I did try this before without success, but always willing to try.

Corel have a facebook account, asking the question there will get replies from Corel, the admin and mods here are just volunteers, just like you Video Studio users.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried to attach the zipped file but it is too big (795KB).

If there was some way to recover an overwritten version of the file I would at least not have start from scratch but it looks like I might have to as Windows tells me "there are no previous versions available".

I have contacted Corel support and they have offered one solution that did not work and the case has been referred to Corel in North America.

The first section of the project seems to load ok but when it comes to loading the second part (which I assume is the music) that is when I get the "unexpected file format" message.

I have tried loading previous projects with and without music and the second part of the load only happens on projects that have music on them.

Even if the project would load without the music I would be happy with that as it is the editing before the music is added that is the most time consuming part.

Hi Greg

If its part loading then it does appear to be a corrupt file/clip...

Is the music from Auto Music Smart Sound or some other format.

First make a copy of the VSP File

If its a MP3 or Wav, try locating the files on the hard drive, then rename the folder.
When you open the VSP the program will not find the files and request a re-link, at least I hope that will happen.
You cancel the relink - the clips show as black and white, delete them from the timeline, save the project.

You could use Microsoft One Drive to share / upload that vsp.
