Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Since you have told us nothing about the video in the project, where it came from and what editing you have done to it, it is impossible to say why you might be getting this message. So let's start at the beginning. Please right click on the video in the timeline and select Properties. (Do this for each video type if your video came from different sources.) Then either copy the Properties box here or take a screen grab of it and upload it here. Unfortunately, your photobucket image doesn't add any information of this type...

Also add where these files are stored and if this location is still exactly the same, ie drive letters haven't changed.

Ken
All I was doing was general editing, I decided to re-do the project and all was going fine when I was happy with my results I re-played it back in Corel but it Just jumped to the End, then I restarted the Program and that's when the error now re-happend, at this stage I can't get to property options because doesn't want to run for some or known reason?
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob
Are you saying the program will not run, or the project will not load?
Post updated
Rob....
Can you zip your VSP file and attach to your post.
We can see if it will open in our program, yes we will get a re-link request as we do not have your files but it should open.

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Hi Rob
I am also unable to open that VSP using Video Studio, I can only assume one of your clips is causing the problem.
We do not have any software that can edit VSP files but can open using Notepad, this does not show all the content but can identify some of the files used in the project.
You have used quite a lot of MP3 audio, now the “lame mp3 codec” (do a google search) can cause some problems.
I can only advise that you convert your MP3 audio to Wav to use in your project.
Video files are MTS types.
I assume by now you have started to re-construct the project, if the MP3 is the problem then you may repeat the failure, so use the File – Save As to give you a backup of the previous edit session. That way if it does fail you have a previous working VSP.

Unfortunately Rob is unable to give clip properties from the project as he cannot load the project to Video Studio.

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
He could start a new project and add the file, then read off the properties.
Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
I just encountered this "Unexpected File Format". It is very frustrated that I can save without error and it will show error only if try to open again. I think it is a very serious problem as I saved 4 versions and finally found that only the first version can be opened again. It does not make sense that I need to frequently save as a new project file, close the project, and reopen the project and see whether it is OK before I can work on that project file.
I did not use any external sound files. I only used the SmartSound and the sample sound files provided by X7.
I also found that even I remove all media files linked to the project, this error still shows. This means that this error is not related to the problem of loading media files.
I also only used mt2s files shot by my digital camera, BMP, JPG and PNG files in my project.

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Hi chrislee
I don’t understand why you should be having these problems, but there has to be a reason?
I have used Video Studio for many a year and not seen this problem, other than using others project files.
Does the problem occur with every project you work on, if you were to create a project using only the library samples, does that cause the same problems.?
When you re-save the first project using File Save As you give the project a new name, that literally creates a copy of the original.
Without any further editing, are you saying you can no longer open the new project.?
I assume you can open that copy, if yes, what further editing do you apply.?
What type of files are you adding to the timelines.?
-------------------------
There is a process called “nesting” that allows you to add a VSP file to the timeline
For instance with the copy VSP open you could add the original (first) VSP.
Doing this by mistake could cause this error, especially if the nested (first) VSP is changed in any way, edited or removed from the hard drive,
Then trying to open the Copy again would cause the error?
--------------------------
Having said that it could be the program at fault, if that was the case I would have expected more complaints,
difficult to think what is happening.............
----------------------------
Video Studio Photo Library:-
If you try to drag an image from the library do you see any errors
Do you have any other problems using the program, any errors at all, re-link requests????

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Thanks Trevor.
I have been using VS for many years and I never encountered such kind of problem too in previous versions. The worst cases included crash during editing or rendering. But at least it won't update my project files which cannot be opened again.
In fact I upgraded to X7 recently. I used it to open a more sophisticated project previously created using X5, and created few simple Bluray without any effects and they were OK.
I saved the new project in 4 versions. For what I remembered, the 4th version was saved, closed and opened again without any editing, but this error occurred. The project included only some jpg, png and bmp pictures and mt2s videos, and used some Smartsound music and sample music. However I did applied various effects and transitions, and added many subtitles.
I never placed vsp file into the project so I don't think it is nested.
However, I did encounter some problems during editing. It crashed when I tried to insert particular Smartsound sounds, and when tried to preview a video it stopped in mid way (though it could be played back initially).
Anyway I need to start over again at third time. This time I will try to save, close and reopen more frequently and try to track what stuff made this problem.

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Hi
You can use Windows Explorer to copy the VSP file, that will give you a backup, then open the original.
If it’s a Smart Sound problem, resave the project before adding Smart Sound.
Smart Sound slows down my rendering, at least it used to, I convert the smartsound clips to Mov, replacing the clip before rendering.
I assume you have QuickTime installed, check you are using the latest version.
Jpeg images are normally saved as Baseline, using Jpegs having progressive encoding can cause some issues with some programs.
Right click a clip and choose properties?
So whats the difference between the Third generation VSP and the Forth?
I know of another poster with a similar problem so whether its inherent to X7 I don’t know, but you are in the minority with this particular issue which does not help?
If you zip the third vsp to attach to your post, I will try to open, I will not see all the content but will know what type it is, not sure I will find anything anyway, but maybe worth a look.
By the way how long are the projects?

Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
I don't understand this "save, close and re-open." Why are you doing close and re-open? Just Save As, and continue editing. Then if the program were to fail, then Close X7, Start X7 again and Open the last save that you made and see if you re-produce the failure so that we have something that we can help you diagnose.chrislee wrote:Anyway I need to start over again at third time. Re: "Unexpected File Format" X7
Having a similar problem also !
Saved a project before start of rendering. At 20% program stopped and was closed automatically.
When trying to reload the project file, I get an error message 'unexpected file format' and all processing stops.
After cancelling the program via tasknmamanger , restarting and reloading the project, I see X7 load all graphic files but block with the errornmessage once it starts with the sound files.
I have used no external sound files, just the automatic and built in sound feature.
Looks like I lost 2 hours of work, unless somebody has a solution to recover the project .vsp file.
Any help is appreciated.
