VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
Hello,
I have created a DVD video file in my previous X6 PRO. Now I have tried to burn it to a DVD disk in my new X7 PRO, and I have got the message: "Convert step got some problems" so the burn failed. It doesn't make sense that X7 doesn't recognize files that has been created in X6. So what could be the problem?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you,
Abraham

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
What format is the file? "DVD video file" doesn't tell us very much. Perhaps a bit more detail on exactly what you are doing might help.
If the file you created is a "DVD compliant mpg" file then X7 will have no problem accepting it and there would be no conversion involved.

Thank you very much for your quickly reply.
In the x6 program in the Share step I choose Create Video File - DVD Video (16:9). This is exactly what I have done for several years in x6 without any problem to burn them.
attached is the properties of that file

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
"Convert step got some problems" usually indicates that the program is trying to convert whatever you put in the burning module to DVD compatibility as per the Properties contained in the Project Settings icon of the burning module (second icon from left in the bottom left of the burning screen.) Your video file is, of course, already totally DVD-compatible as far as I can see. That suggests that maybe (1) the Properties shown in that Project Settings box are different and (2) the little box below those settings -- "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" -- is not ticked. So check those...
Are you completely sure you inserted the new mpeg-2 into the burning module and not the VSP file? It is usually the latter which brings up "Convert step got some problems"...

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
I have checked again the problem and found out:
1. The file format is PAL DVD, while the burning module in the x7 was set to NTSC.
2. The "Do not convert compliant MPEG files" was ticked
So now every thing is OK and I have succeed to burn.
Thanks a lot Canuck and Ken

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
Ken: I am having same problem with DVD burn using Pro X7, never had this problem before until tonight. "Convert step got some problems". I have not yet done the patch for X7 yet however, should I do that?
Here are the properties of the file I'm using to burn the DVD, MPEG file, not VSP file. I needed to make one long file out of 6 separate MPEGs, so that's what I did in the project, just laid down the 6 MPEGs.
Thanks, Candy

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
Had to get this DVD burn done so got around problem by burning it in VS6. It burned fine. I'd still like to know why it didn't work with VS7 Pro if anyone knows. I saw the link to get the VS7 patch but the comments after it sounded like the patch would cause more problems so I haven't downloaded it, but would be interested in if the patch would solve this burn issue.
Thanks for any help.

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
Hi Candy
You will be best in converting your MP4 video file to DVD mpeg2 then use that file to burn your disc.
At least using a mpeg2 DVD compliant video file will not be re-rendered during the burner process.
When you start the Burn process it should start with Convert Title (assuming you have created a title.)
Also take care with the interlacing your MP4 uses progressive (Frame Based), the default VS template for Mpeg2 DVD uses Upper Field, if you have problems with jagged edges, check the interlacing.

Thanks so much Trevor for your reply.
I'm wondering why VSX6 worked ok, an issue with VSX7 do you think?

Re: VSX7 - Convert step got some problems
Hi
Yes that may be the case but difficult to pin down the actual causes
There have been some issues with Mov/MP4 and X7, a hot fix was provided by Corel for certain types of MP4 from particular cameras.
But your files properties seem to indicate being created with Video Studio, I may of course be wrong. If that is the case, what were the original formats?
Either way you will be best in creating the DVD Mpeg2 file first, that will overcome the conversion within the burner module.
