Unknown Error - At Share - DVD, StudioProX5
Hi there,
After a lot of briljant projects I had create another one.
Sadly I stucked with an error.
The error occur when I selected "Share" and than "Creating Disc" DVD or Bluray.
Both give the same error. (its in Dutch below, I made my own translation)
Quote: "Een onbekende fout deed zich voor in dit programma waardoor het stopte.
Neem contact op met Corel Technische Ondersteuning en stuur het dumpbestand ter analyse.
C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Temp\vstudio_15.2.0.10_20140714_213346.DMP"
Translation: A unknown error occurs, this is why the program stops.
Contact Corel Technical Support and send them the dumpfile.
The timeline has nothing special. MTS-files and some text.
Creating a MPEG file of it works fine. The error occurs only by creating a disc.
Is anyone of you fammiliar with this kind of error. Searching on the internet learned me that Quicktime could have bad influences on it. So I deleted it and restart the computer. Nothing changed.
Run CC-cleaner on the PC.
I checked on the last updates of Windows and VideoStudio but no updates where available.
System: Windows Vista, 32 bit, program: video Studio Prox5 Ultimate
Hope someone can help or give some suggestions what to do.
(my warrantee has already gone, so I cannot contact Corel about this issue).

If you can make an mpeg file, can you then use the mpeg file to make your dvd?
This is the preferred route for most people.

Re: Unknown Error - At Share - DVD, StudioProX5
I probably can do that with another program (Nero?) but not with Studio I think.
Why should I use another programm for someting that worked many, many thimes with Studio on a brilliant way.
I want to understand why this failure/error comes up.

Of course you can create a mpg file in VideoSTudio. What makes you think you can't?
The mpg file you works fine? How did you create that?

Re: Unknown Error - At Share - DVD, StudioProX5
the MPEG file was made by "share" --> "creating video file" --> selecting HDV --> selecting HDV 1080i 50i for computer.
As I had to burn this MPEG file I have to go to the same menu in "share" --> creating disc" and there is were the error occurs.
Besides that I don't understand why the program gives this error when I want to create a disc from the project itself. This error hasn't given before and I have made a lot of discs in the past whithout any failure.
I also tried to create a disc of some old projects (which were already made in the past). Also here the same error.
Strange...

Hi Pal
I assume you are trying to burn a DVD not Bluray although the process will be similar. Can you confirm what type of disc you are trying to burn.??
In the past there were many problems in rendering the project in the burner module
Many users always create a video file from Share Create Video File – DVD
Only the DVD option will create a Mpeg2 which is suitable to burn a dvd disc.
Now start a new project – nothing in the timeline
Share Create Disc –opens the burner module – nothing in the timeline
Top left Add Media files – Add Video --- browse for the Mpeg2 file created above.
Using the compliant mpeg2 file does not require any further rendering
Create your menu
From the last page choose to create a Disc Image this saves a ISO to your hard drive
Using VCL Media Player you can play the file to check quality
Using Tools – Burn from Disc Image – burn the iso to disc
For DVD --- This web page was written quite a while ago but should give pointers to burning a DVD, hope this helps.

Hi Thanks all for your replies and help.
I will take a look at it and let you know.
Important for me is that there might be a misunderstanding to you: the problem is not that I cannot make a DVD from a mpeg file. The problem is that I got a error message when I want to create a disc from a project. This error messages occures just before creating the menu, so has i.m.o. nothing to do with burning or rendering.
Burning will be to a file on my harddisc.
I just want to try something else and let you know the result

Are you trying to burn to an iso image file or folder set on your hard disk? If yes then to what disc type are you burning: standard DVD or a BD?PAL wrote:Hi Thanks all for your replies and help.

Re: Unknown Error - At Share - DVD, StudioProX5
Hi
Can you tell us what type of disc you are burning a DVD or AVCHD or Bluray, I assume a DVD
To burn a DVD you need a Mpeg2 video file.
Your project has to be rendered to create that type of file, I did notice you said you created a HDV, that file is not suitable for burning a DVD and as such will be converted to Mpeg2 prior to burning.
We have two options in burning a disc…………
Option 1/
With the project open in the timeline doing Share Create Disc DVD opens the burner module.
Just after hitting Burn the process starts with Convert Title, this is probably where you are having problems, the Convert Title stage is rendering the project to a temporary Mpeg2, this is used to burn the disc.
Option 2 / ( I always use this process -- recommended)
If you have errors during the burning process then you are advised to create that Mpeg2 yourself.
From the edit timeline Share Create Video File DVD, this renders the project to Mpeg 2 video file.
If that process fails then you have issues with the actual project.
Once the Mpeg2 file has been created, play the file to check quality.
To burn a disc using the Mpeg2
Start a new project—nothing in the timeline
Share Create Disc – Add Media – Add Video File --- browse for the Mpeg2 created above.
On the final window, after Pressing burn the process will start with Convert Title there will be no Convert Title as you are using a compliant Mpeg2 file.
Are you saying using Option 2 using a Mpeg2 file as above also causes the errors.???

Re: Unknown Error - At Share - DVD, StudioProX5
I have found the solution. It has nothing to do with burning or file format.
Normaly when I worked on a project I have my PC connected to external 2 HDD's. This results in "preferences" with a "workfolder" G:\.
When I wanted to burn my project to my PC with only external 1 HDD connected the errour came up. So it was not possible to create a menu or even burning. The programma stopped.
I think the reason for that was that my external HDD was F:\ and not G:\ on the moment. Going to the location of "preferences" a warning messages came up.
To solve this I connected my both external HDD's and everything worked fine.
It looks like a stuppid thing but, how strange can this be?
Hope to help others with this explanation.
Anyway everybody thanks for their help, even this was into another direction.

Hi
Thanks for the feedback, interesting, there is a recent post regarding external drives here, maybe you could give your opinion on their use…..
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=54143
Working Folders……….
Just to add if you are not aware ---- there is two working folders…..
One
For the general editing, can be allocated via edit timelines Preferences F6
Two (Corels little secret)
From the burner module, this is used for temporary files (DMF_TEMP) used in the burner render processes, can be allocated from (lower left icon ) F6 Preferences
Anyway its good you have found the cause…………..
