Drag and drop?

Post by oldmaven »

In both ASP and ASP 2, when I drag and drop images from the currently open folder to other folders in the file system, sometimes they are moved but sometimes merely copied. How can I make "move" the default?

They should move by default as long as it is on the same drive.
Just like in Windows.

I know they should -- but most of the time they don't.

And how do I get them to move if I put them on a different drive?

I don't remember exactly Not sitting at Windows box right now, but using CTRL while moving makes it into copy, so it might be useful to try SHIFT and ALT to see what happens.

I've tried Ctrl, and Alt, and Shift, and some of them show the little plus sign that means I'm copying, but none show the minus sign that indicates a move. Whether the images are moved or copied seems to be random happenstance.

Once upon a time, drag and drop worked normally in ASP. Then it worked only selectively--certain files (mostly downloaded ones) could not be moved this way. Now it does not work at all.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the 32- and 64-bit AS Pro 2, and still no change.

Perhaps the uninstall was not thorough enough, because both versions came up with my old settings intact.

Could it be that somewhere in ASP's settings there's something that prevents this?

Drag and drop works fine in Windows Explorer and all my other file managers. It works fine in IrfanView. It works fine in every other program it applies to. Only ASP Pro does not allow this (and it used to).

The ESC key technique doesn't work in ASP Pro.

Without drag and drop, ASP Pro is close to useless for me.

On the assumption that my problem might be due to some lingering file that ASP had picked up when I reinstalled it, I used Advanced Uninstaller Pro to delete the x32 and x64 ASPs, plus ASP HDR, then did a clean reinstall of the x64.

No change -- it absolutely does not allow drag and drop any more.

I consider this an essential feature. How do I get it back?

I use Mac and can confirm this is broken in ASP 2.2.x and ASP 2.3.0.99 (latest release).

So, how far back in ASP versions must I go to get Drag and Drop restored?

And is Corel even aware of this problem?

I held off on the update notices for quite awhile. The fixes listed did not affect me. I was running 2.1.1.9 for a long time. I finally decided to put in the patches to the new version, 2.3.0.99 and drag and drop no longer works. Many of us use AFS2 for the simple reason that we don't need or want the DAM of Lightroom because we know how to create our own file structure and find our photos. Your patch has broken the program. This needs to be fixed. Why am I seeing an admins response to other posts but not this one? Your patch has broken the program.

On another note, the progress bar in the lower left corner is gone. Now we have to wonder if your program is doing anything. I never expected time estimates from it, just an indication that it was performing the task I asked it to do.

Your patch has broken the program.

It seems the only way to get a response is to post your problems with ASP on there Facebook page. You may not get the problem fixed but should get a response.
Thanks.
