I need more information, about how the crash occurred and whether you incurred any Error messages during the crash. Also, the process you are using to convert the file. Or, are you saying that when you try to import the Mpeg it crashes while importing? Or, are you able to import the Mpeg but when you try to save to a GIF File format it then crashes?
Gif animator is only Mpeg 1 compliant and may have trouble opening newer Mpeg’s. If your import is crashing, try dividing the file into small portions, less than 99 frames, then convert to a GIF File. You can combine all of your files later once in a GIF Format.
What Mpeg type are you trying to import? Are you using the Save AS feature to save to a GIF file format?

GIF Animator is a very basic program designed for small AVI and GIF animations basically desgined for the Web.
In the Open VideoFile\Preview\Duration you can select specific frames to include in the Video.
Duration Opens the Duration dialog box, where you can select specific frames that you want to open from the selected video file.
When importing a video each layer or frame is given a separate frame. I work mostly with AVI and some GIF; an AVI is basically many stills merged into a Video format. I don’t know how it will affect the mpg in relation to still images. Ulead does not have any controls or information in the Help to explain otherwise.
Any Video you open or import you can manually extract any frame or delete it.
The point of GIF Animator was to mimic true Film, although different in nature, GIF Animator uses the composition of Still Frames to simulate a full motion video.
Ulead Says:
The animation produced by the GIF file is produced in exactly the same manner as the method used in film: motion is created by rapidly displaying a sequence of similar images. While the production methods in both filmmaking and GIF animation differ greatly in effects, the result is the same - still images are brought to life before your eyes.
