X7 I've mixed feelings about this version

Post by habanr »

Few days ago I've upgraded from X5 Ultimate to X7 Ultimate. The main reason was I wanted promised faster conversion on my notebook with I7 processor with built in HD4000 graphics, 8GB memory and Windows 8 64bit.

Installation process of Videostudio X7 process is in one word - dissaster. After install VS wasn't able to play any clip in my simple project, each clip playback started and then after 2s stopped. With enabled "HW acceleration during editing process" wasn't VS play any clip at all - only black preview screen with sound. So I installed SP1 which was another disaster. With it my simple test project (10min length, 5 clips, F/X fade to black transition) freeze during export at the same position.

So I uninstalled completely VS X7 and my previous X5 and tried to install X7 without SP1. Now my VS surprisingly "works", I could play whole clip (but without HW acceleration during edit) and I'm export my video. But VS isn't stable as promised. During my 1hour edit work VS freeze twice. One freeze was when transition "Turn page" was added then all cores of my CPU were throttled to 100%. The second freeze was during audio track move - GUI freeze and CPU was 0%.

Definitely X7 isn't good version. I must admit that conversion is fast, but I'm not convinced that overall work is faster because of frequent crashes...

Hi

Well I don’t seem to have any problems in editing using VS X7 at least not that causes crashes. Transitions work ok at least the ones I have tried.
For me the program is quite stable.

Some HD video types do require the use of Smart Proxy files to assist in playback.

Video Playback pauses after a few seconds.
A recent poster had a similar problem using SD MPEG2 video from a HD camcorder.
Converting the AVCHD to Mpeg2 worked ok and he was able to edit those.
Still a mystery why the cameras versions had problems.

Can you give some details regarding your video, its properties, right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they, take a screen shot of that window, create a jpeg and attach to your post..
