Any known issues with Lumix MP4 files ?

Post by mikecouk »

Hi all,

I've got a fresh install of VideoStudio Ultimate X7 64bit mode on Windows 7. I'm not trying to do anything complicated, just concatenate several movie files from my camera and render the output, no effects or fading, just simple stuff, but the rendering phase is hanging on me.

My source is an MP4 50fps at 1080 res straight from a Panasonic Lumix GX7.
Output wise, I've tried a few variations but they all seem to fail, but tried MP4 1080 25fps and AVHCD too.

Is there any known issues with lumix outputs !?

Hi Mike

Welcome to the forums

A little bit more info if you don’t mind.

What version of Video Studio are you using?
You indicate using HD video, AVCHD can be quite demanding on the program and pc.
Video Studio uses a process called Smart Proxy this does improve playback and helps with editing.
Make sure Smart Proxy is enabled and that proxy files have been created.

You say “Output wise, I've tried a few variations but they all seem to fail,”
Can you explain a little more what you mean by fail.

Can you provide more details of your video files properties, right click a clip in the timeline and select properties.
You can make an image of that window and attach to your post, otherwise give your fingers some exercise.

Do you have QuickTime installed on your pc?

I note that you are using X7 64 bit. One of the significant improvements in that version is the fact that you can now automatically match Project Properties to those of the videos in the timeline. In Preferences > General, if you tick the box "Show message when inserting first video clip into the timeline", then when you insert your first Lumix clip, you should get a message box asking if you want the Project Properties to match those of the clip. Accept that, then do your editing. Then when everything is ready, and you want the output new file to have those same properties, you have two choices. You go to Share, then you can choose either "Same As First Clip" or else "Same As Project Properties". Have you tried this? I do it all the time with my own mp4 files from both my Samsung smartphone and my GoPro Hero 3 with excellent results.
... the rendering phase is hanging on me.
What exactly do you mean by this? Does the program hang? Or is it just going slow? If the latter, then try lata's advice about SmartProxy. It works by creating standard definition copies ("proxies") of your high def originals. They are easier to edit and play. Then when you are satisfied, the edits are applied to the originals.
