Maximum clips on a DVD

Post by phil155 »

Hi, first I want to say you I work with DVD Workshop since only few days and my question will probably appears stupid ! So I want to do a DVD with many many short clips. I choose the options to have a Standard Play of about 2 hours and I'm now at 1h28 or something like that. The problem is that I'm now at my 99th clip and I can't add any more clip. I saw on previous posts on this board that there was a max of 99 clips by slideshow ans 10 slideshows by project. What is exactly a slideshow ? Is it possible to have more than one slideshow on a single DVD ? If yes, I would like to know how to create a new slideshow to be able to put the others clip.

If it's not possible that way, is it possible by adding any patch or something like that ?

Thank you very much,
Phil

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe the DVD spec allows up to 99 titles, and 99 chapters per title. So, you might have to combine some of the clips together (with video editing software, like Ulead Video Studio). When you drag a clip into Workshop, it becomes a separate title.

If they are really different titles... not intended to be played in sequence, more than one DVD shouldn't be a problem.

A slideshow is still images. (i.e. photographic "slides") :) Perhaps you're too young to remember, but people used to shoot film-stills, and the developing shop could supply prints or slides. Slides were viewed on a movie screen with a slide-projector. When you came back from vacation you could bore everyone with your "slideshow"! :)

Yes you are correct. DVD has a standard limit of 99 titles with 99chapters per title.

WorkShop does not have a join video/slideshow utility so you need to use a video editing software to do the trick (just like what DVDDoug said).

To create more slideshows, you need to create a new set of slideshows in the title list. Drag your images to "Drop Video or Image clip here" box to create your new set of slides. Each slideshow will be treated as a separate title but it can have more than 99 images (depending on the version).

I have some difficulties understanding english, but what I can see in your post it's that there is no way to create more than one slideshow on a single DVD and there's no way to have more than 99 clips in a slideshow.

If I'm wrong, please say me step by step how can I put more than 99 clips. I can combine some clips with MovieMaker but it's very long so if there's another solution...

Thank you very much,
Phil

create your project. In your Library manager, browse for your images and multi-select them (CTRL+leftclick).

Drag those images to the "Drop Video or Image clip here" box in the titles list. if you want to set each image in the slideshow as chapter, just select the image on the chapter list panel and right click on it then select Mark as Chapter. The 99 chapter limit still applies.

You have just created your first set of slideshow.

Just repeat the procedure but be sure to drag the new set of images to "Drop Video or Image clip here" box to create another set of slideshow.

It's OK for the first steps, and thanks for the Ctrl + Click, it helps going faster ! So I select 99 clips I have and drop them in ''Drop Video or Image clip here''. I don't want to do chapter, so I let it like that. Now I can't add more clips in the ''Drop Video or Image clip here''. It's the 100th place to put clip, and it's limited to 99 so it doesn't work.

I'm sorry if I don't understand very well, english is not easy !!

Thanks to help me,
Phil

Can I work around this problem?

Post by GnAProductions »

Hey..I noticed everyone was having the same problem. Im limited to 10 clips on my dvd.....trust me...annoying.....because im in the middle of doing a dance recital DVD, and ive gotta put 30 chapters on there.

See my problem?

Anyone know how i can work around this issue? I don't exactly have the spare cash on me to go buy myself a copy of the FULL version.

Any help would be awesome.
