Is there no way that I can use my editing suite , with which I am entirely happy , with a Windows 7 OS ?

VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and Windows 7
Recently , I had to change my Operating System from Windows XP to Windows 7. Part of this process , as you will probably know , was to delete all my software programmes - including Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 Plus. Having had an enforced lay-off from editing , I have now come to re-load my disc and I do not get very far......... my name only and then the inability to get any further having put in the disc code number ! I note from what User notes I have that the Operating System stated is Vista or XP.
Is there no way that I can use my editing suite , with which I am entirely happy , with a Windows 7 OS ?

Have a look through this very recent thread where another user wanted -- and eventually succeeded in getting -- VS 11 on his Win 7 machine.
First off, though, do you remember if you bought VS 11.5 straight out, or if it was an upgrade from a previous version? If the latter, then in those days you had to have the earlier version still installed so that the VS 11.5 upgrade installation routine could check that the upgrade was valid.

Sorry, yes I forgot to insert the link: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 38#p290138
It's just a few down from where this thread is currently located on the Board list.
But I am not sure about your answer -- it's been so very long since I used VS 11.5 that I can't remember if you could buy it as an individual product or whether it was just an upgrade from VS 11...

Hi Terry
Try copying the disc contents to your hard drive, create a new folder to hold the files.
Then try installing the program from those files, you will have to locate the Setup.exe file to run the installation.
OH before installing go to the temp folder and delete the contents, that should remove any VS 11 leftover files. (however they may not be used with the disc installation)
Put %temp% in the Start button search box.

Thanks for that , Trevor. I will try that when I get back in from shopping !
The maddening thing with me initially was that the inout screen would not recognise the disc code ! Will a program run even if you don't have the 'key' ?

Re: VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and Windows 7
Hi Terry
I know the program is on disc and not a download but is the program the full version or an upgrade from an earlier version.
Upgrades require the previous VS versions serial number to prove you own the program, you should be prompted for that when you try to install, then asked for the VS11 number.
If the previous version is already installed then you do not get asked for that serial number. The installer will only ask for the new serial number as though installing a full version.
Being a disc version the serial number should be on the packaging of the disc.
Otherwise logon to your Corel account where you can view your registered products.
You need the correct product serial number to install the program.

Re: VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and Windows 7
Trevor
I took your advice and created a new directory called 'VideoStudio 11' and copied the contents of the disc into it and ran the setup.exe.
I was asked to enter name , company and serial number. At this stage on my very first attempt to auto load the file before I asked for help from the Forum , I had put in my name , ignored any entry into the company field and finally entered the serial number...... and got no further ! This time , I decided I would enter 'Home' at the company stage and then conclude by putting in the serial number. This time it worked ! So i asked myself the question , "What if I had entered name , home and serial number during the process of loading the disc as normal." So I decided to load the disc as normal and let the autoexec load the program into the 'Program Directory'. I was able to complete the process this time having put in name , home and serial number !
So I was left with all the copied program files in the recently created 'VideoStudio 11' directory. Problem is , I cannot 'Uninstall' those files because they are where they are ; the Uninstall facility will deal with programs in the 'Program Directory' and I understand that one should not try to simply try to delete program files ...... something to do with registries ? ..... beyond my comprehension , I'm afraid !
I hope that you have understood all the previous writing . However , any suggestions as to how I can safely get rid of the 'VideoStudio 11' directory and its contents ?
Regards
Terry

Re: VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and Windows 7
Hi Terry
When you say you created a new directory do you mean you created a new folder, called “Video Studio 11” then saved the disc content to that folder. If that is correct you can safely delete that folder. You do not uninstall simply delete.
However you could use that folder and files as a backup of your disc. I would rename the folder to “Video Studio 11 disc files”
The actual program files will be here:-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 11 or similar folder name. Do not delete those files.
And yes some installations require you fill the company field, like you I use Home.
Anyway good to hear you managed to install the program.

Re: VideoStudio 11.5 Plus and Windows 7
Just a thank you to those who contributed to my quandary which was largely self-inflicted because of my initial decision to ignore any input to the 'Company' question when validating the software at the installation stage. When later I put in 'Home' to the Company question , the installation went ahead quite happily. This was despite the stated system requirements of Windows Vista or XP and my having only Windows 7 Home Premium. I did not even have to invoke Windows XP Mode nor Windows Virtual PC. It makes me wonder if I have some shocks in store in the future !
Once again , this forum is a godsend to people like myself which I have found to my benefit during the 7 years I have been active on it. Many thanks to all the 'Experts' for their time and effort.
