VSSCAP and Service Pack
My Video Studio Pro x6 was working fine until I did the stupid thing of updating windows 8 to windows 8.1 and now the sound in screen capture does not work. I checked all the divers and they are fine and everything works on the sound card. When I try to run screen capture it say “An error occurred on your audio device.” When a compatibility test is run it says that VSSCAP is not compatible with windows 8.1. I checked for updates for pro x6 and it says I am up to date. I tried to run the VSProX6_SP1.exe and it says that it can not find the installation version. Where to next? How do I get it to work with the sound? I have other screen capture software that works fine.

Re: VSSCAP and Service Pack
The can't determine installed version message is Corel's strange way of telling you that the service pack is already installed.
Have you tried running the programme in compatibility mode - maybe even allowing Windows 7 to make sure.

I was running windows 8 before going to windows 8.1. When I checked compatability it says it is compatible with windows 8. So I assume it is not compatible with windows 8.1. What next? Going back to windows 8 from 8.1 is not easy and makes a real mess.

Yes - but have you tried right clicking on the VSScap.exe file and choosing "troubleshoot compatibility" and allowing windows to set a new comparability setting.
You may need to do the same with the Vstudio.exe file to run VideoStudio without problems

Re: VSSCAP and Service Pack
FWIW, I can't even get X6 Screen Cap to open in my Win 8.1 Pro set up... I have never noticed before since I use another screen capture program. And that was because, even on my main editing Win 7 machine, I always had trouble with the audio in VS's screen cap!!

Re: VSSCAP and Service Pack
I had actually done all this before and it says they are compatible to windows 8 but no mention of 8.1. I did it all again. They are set for windows 8. I tried windows 7 and have the same problem. Since all other programs are works correctly and this worked correctly before the update to windows 8.1. I have to assume that it is how you are calling windows that is not correct for some change in windows 8.1.
