Can someone explain what I shoud use?
I created a color profile using Spyder 4 and set that as my monitor profile in ASP. Should I use the same profile or something else?
I have a Dell wide gamut monitor U2713H.

Heavens No!!!Kneops wrote:I created a color profile using Spyder 4 and set that as my monitor profile in ASP. Should I use the same profile
The only place you use a monitor profile is for your monitor.
Unless you have specific needs, use sRGB for JPGs.
And read up on color management on http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/ and maybe the link in my signature.
cheers

Re: Default JPEG Profile
I did read both pages you mention, and the link in your signature reveals also al lot of info about ProphotoRGB. Shouldn't I use that then instead of sRGB???
When I have a widegamut display and set my raw images to 14 bit color depth and AdobeRGB colorspace inside my camera?
Would this then be the correct setting?

Re: Default JPEG Profile
Once you have set the Spyder generated profile as your monitor profile, the other thing you might be able to do is get the profile for your printer or printing service. This you can then use for softproofing - at least of those shots you are planning to sell or hang on the wall. After all, you are interested in how the picture will look when it is printed, aren't you?
If you are thinking about photos on the web then you should perhaps softproof against the standard profile for the viewer's monitor. I think that is sRGB. It sure as shooting ain't wide-gamut.

PS you could always send your photos to www.thephotofactory.nl - they used to sort out any colour idiocies I had perpetrated in the days before i used B5/ASP

Re: Default JPEG Profile
Read that again... ProPhoto is not suitable for 8bit files like JPGs...Kneops wrote:I did read both pages you mention, and the link in your signature reveals also al lot of info about ProphotoRGB. Shouldn't I use that then instead of sRGB???
You need 16bit files to really make use of it.
The color space setting in Camera is for the embedded JPGs and the only relevant influence for a raw shooter is the in camera displayed histogram. The Adobe RGB one is a bit more accurate. When I have a widegamut display and set my raw images to 14 bit color depth and AdobeRGB colorspace inside my camera?
Yes.Would this then be the correct setting?

Re: Default JPEG Profile
Thanks to both of you for tips and explaining. I really didn't know 8 bit was for JPEGs only.....
I must have missed something about ten years ago
So working with ProPhoto is good when working with ASP and TIF files, when I want to use these files for printing purposes, and the sRGB profile is there for converting/exporting images to JPEGs so that I can use them on the web or otherwise.
