Batch processing of JPG images

Post by B24Mike »

I have digital scans of about 75,000 pages of World War II documents from the 2nd Air Division (B-24 units in England). These images were converted from 16mm microfilm to Adobe PDF's (54 reels of film) which I have converted into JPG images. Most of the images are uniformly dark and can be made more readable by applying contrast and brightness settings. I tried following the script creation process, but when I try running the script during batch processing, I have to manually select the script file and apply it. Can you give me the steps that I need to follow to be able to run a contrast/brightness script against the contents of a folder with up to 2,100 JPG images?

Hi Mike

First create a new folder to save the modified jpgs.

From the File menu select "Batch Process"

Browse to the folder that has the images that you want to process and select them all.

From the "Batch Process" panel select the script that you want to run.

Select the "Save mode" that you want.

Under "Save Options" navigate to the new folder that you created for saving the new files.

Click on the Start button.

PaintShop Pro is not "best" for it. Believe me. I already spend a lot of time with such groups of images through the years... :(

The problem with PSP is that it does't report sometimes "incorrect" processing.
So you have to manualy check result of all processed images.

But, you can try insteed look on:

Guys: Thank you very much for your input.

Radim: I really like the link to IMBATCH. I downloaded the tool and immediately applied it to a sample and it worked just fine. As the unit historian and webmaster for the World War II 445th Bomb Group (http://www.445BG.org), I just wanted to say that the image cleanup of records will make a nice addition to the website. Thanks again for your recommendation.
