I'm trying to like ASP(2), but...

Post by tuxx »

Hello

Sorry about the topic. I'm frustrated. Hear me out, please :)

I'm an old Bibble user and jumped on ASP when launched. I quickly found that it read my D7000 files horrible, so I switched to LR and have been there since.

Now that ASP2 has been launched and with support for my new E-M10 today, I decided to try out the trial. The results are really disappointing. I've tried my best to get the best results. I've ditched the default sharpening and noise removal tools in favor of the Wavelet plugins as those give me the best results, but still I see it far behind LR.

It bugs me, because as much as I love the output from LR, I really can't stand Adobe, no less the cloud-stuff they're trying to marry us to. Also I run Linux and I'm tired of running LR in an underpowered VM - the speed on ASP2 compared is massive when run native in Linux.

So, my question is - am I doing something wrong, or is this just how ASP2 is? See attached 100% crops. I've only focused on sharpness vs. noise, not color. Below is just a few examples, the result is uniform across all my images.

Please help me love ASP2 as I'd really like to :)

Did you activate LCE in AS (similar to clarity in LR)?

cheers

I tried that after I posted, as I recalled the function.

It didn't make much difference, only to the overall contrast of the image, not sharpness.. Also the LR-one is not enhanced with LCE in those shots.

Nevermind. ASP is simply not up for the task. Alternative found, happy life.

For the rest of us Linux users, the alternative is???

Cheers.
