WinDVD Pro 11 doesent launch, no error

Post by 1031982 »

This is on a friends system, but I built his system and act as support.
The problem started when we couldn't get the latest key pack installed.
After some time I found the best option was to UN-install and re-install it.
After doing that, I got kept getting an error about the serial number being invalid, so I did some digging and found out that some things were left on the system. I dumped them manually, and then I was able to get it installed.
Upon entering the registration code and it being accepted, nothing happened. I loaded up the task manager and saw it load up the program, and then close down. There are no error messages, and there are no events in the system logs. Everything is verified as using HDCP.
Corel doesn't seem to want to help, and the only solution I can see at this point is to either wipe and re-load the system OR switch to another player.

The system is running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, 8GB RAM, i5 CPU (Don't remember the model), and a Nvidia card. I have tried playing with the Vertical Sync setting with no luck. I also found out Java was partly screwed up and had to remove it and then re-install it. I tried re-installing WinDVD Pro with no luck.

I'm having the same problem. It all started when I tried to install the .6 service pack and it gave me an 'invalid key' error, after which I re-installed and it didn't work. So I tried a System Restore to before I ran the patch, and I started getting the 'temp files deleting themselves when trying to install' problem described here

So I did a clean re-install of WIndows and installed WinDVD and it worked again, but after running Windows Update I got a 'side-by-side configuration error,' and after uninstalling and re-installing WinDVD it was right back to not starting up properly.

I then did a clean re-install AGAIN, and ran Windows Update before installing anything else and installed WinDVD, and it's STILL opening and then closing immediately. I'm fairly certain it has something to do with one of the .NET framework security updates, but I'm not sure which one. I'm going to try to uninstall them all and see if it'll work.

Actually, I figured it out, and I'm feeling like a real idiot right now. Apparently (for me anyway) this issue was caused by Comodo firewall being over aggressive. I don't know why it wasn't happening before, and I can't figure out what setting to change to turn it off, but uninstalling Comodo seems to have addressed it.
