Capture Composite Video input as MPEG

Post by bokbokchui »

VideoStudio Pro X6

I want to know if I can customize the profile of DVD output option of Capture Video.

With Format default to DVD (No other option), click Options, Video Properties. Click Template tab. Under Current Profile, there are a number of options:
DVD NTSC AC3 EP
DVD NTSC AC3 GQ 16_9
DVD NTSC AC3 GQ
.
.
DVD NTSC LPCM EP
DVD NTSC LPCM GQ 16_9
DVD NTSC LPCM GQ

However, I can't find a way to customize it. I want to capture my 2 hr. VHS in DVD-5 size. In older version (Ulead VS 10), I can customize each setting, e.g., I can select MPEG audio to reduce the audio size.
LPCM is useless for me as I don't it's high quality audio recorded in VHS.

Can I customize the ouput parameters of the capture video to DVD options?

Well one of us is confused

Your post is headed Capture Composite - but then it seems to be all about OUTPUT settings

with VideoStudio you capture whatever the video is - if you want to capture as mpeg that's fine - select 'DVD' and import - then do whatever you want and the output the result in whatever format you want, but you do not worry about output settings when capturing.

And if you are worrying about the audio format, then forget that too. LPCM is the rock standard audio format, and moreover it's part of the international DVD standard. While mpeg layer 2 audio is also part of the standard, at least in PAL countries, the only other audio format in the international standard which VS can use is Dolby. So if you want to capture using a different audio format altogether, then forget it since at some stage it has to be converted to either LPCM or Dolby. Dolby of course is more compressed and thus smaller than LPCM.

Hi Bok

Yes you are correct that earlier versions allowed you to set your capture properties,
Unfortunately Corel removed that capability in later versions.

AC3 will capture to Digital Dolby audio.
GQ will use 8000kbps using standard Mpeg2 frame size. 720 x 480

For a 2 hour video you would need to render your project using approx 4000kbps to fit to a standard DVD 4.7Gb disc

Do you have any software that came with your capture device, maybe best to use that to capture, then VS to edit.
