Cannot find Track Manager on VideoStudio Pro X6

Post by sheltiephil »

Hi, I want to add overlay tracks and cannot find Track Manager to do so in VideoStudio Pro X6. I watched a tutorial in which the Track Manager button appears next to the Show All Visible Tracks button above the start of the timeline. I am ensuring that I have the default workspace enabled, but simply cannot find the Track Manager button to then choose to add overlay tracks. My workspace shows only the main video track, one overlay track, title and sound tracks. I do not have the Ultimate version, just Pro X6 - and wonder whether the option to add overlay tracks via the Track Manager is only available in the Ultimate version. I wonder what is going on? The fully legal program that I have registered is working perfectly well in every other way. - Regards, Phil

First lets kill your myth - The Pro and Pro Ultimate versions of VideoStudio are IDENTICAL - - the only difference is that the Ultimate version comes with some additional plug-ins - there is no difference in the VideoStudio programme.

I assume from your post you are in Timeline view.

The attachment below is taken from page 25 of the X6 user manual - are you saying there is definitely no icon which is labelled '2' on the image shown below.

What about if you go via "Settings >> Track Manager" - do you then see the options for additional tracks.
X6 timeline - Track Manager at icon 2
X6 timeline - Track Manager at icon 2

Thank you for replying Brian. There is definitely no button for Track Manager. I'm looking next to Show All Visible Tracks, top left of the timeline, below the Timeline button. There is no link to Track Manager in Settings. I am in the Timeline mode. I’ve been reading page 25 of the User Manual. I didn't think there was any difference between Pro X6 and the Ultimate version. I had run out of possibilities and was willing to consider anything. I've been looking into default and custom workspace, but haven't created any custom workspace, accidentally or in some other way. I will contact Corel if I can. Meanwhile, it's possible to work around the limitation of one overlay track, but it is time-consuming splitting clips on the main track, then dragging the short overlays way along the timeline, having to compress and de-compress to move them into position. - Phil

If there is no "Track Manager" under settings you need to try to reload/repair X6 from your programme disk.
Both the icon on the timeline and the option under settings are there on my version of X6.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Phil

Very unusual, I don’t think this has been reported before, maybe someone running Windows 8 can check their X6 program?

You should be able to view Track Manager from the Settings menu, again strange that you cannot.
Try Right Clicking the timelines, I see Track Manager listed there.

Where did you purchase the program? Is it a complete version or an SE Version maybe bundled with hardware?

Have you installed the Service Packs that are provided by Corel.

As a thought, is your Graphics Driver upto date?

Try contacting Corel via their Facebook account.

FWIW, on my Windows 8.1 computer, Track Manager is visible -- and works -- as both an icon on the Edit screen and under Settings. Win 8.1 was installed on a clean hard disk and X6 (and X7) installed after installing the OS. In other words, Win 8.1 was not installed over an existing OS and installed software.

Thanks Ken, Trevor, Brian and Terfyn,

Sorry I've taken a while to respond. The "full" program that I thought I had purchased was bundled with PaintShop Pro, with just basic editing functionality. You couldn't use hardware acceleration, and the sharing options were highly limited, without even the options to burn to disc. Anyway, I've now purchased Corel VideoStudio X7 Pro, and all functions are included and working perfectly! That includes the Track Manager, of course. What a nice program, taking advantage of my 64bit system with Windows 8.1 Update 1, Core i7 CPU, nVidia GTX 650 GPU and 16Gb RAM. Enjoying very much - and yes, it pays to be careful with what you're buying! Great that people like you respond quickly on the forum! Thank you - regards, Phil

Hi Phil

Strange that your version is not fully functioning, I don’t understand that.
The trial version is fully functioning although has less samples, but that’s to reduce download times, So a PSP and VS package should work ok.

Complain to Corel, you will have free support having just purchased a new version, tell them why you had to upgrade, you never know you may get a bit of a refund.
Mind you the effort may not be worth the while.

Glad you have a working version.

Hi Trevor, I'm happy now. Pro X7 is working very nicely for me. I should have been more careful buying a bundled version from a reseller without suspecting that it might be limited and without checking the full details of that version. PaintShop Pro X6 that it was bundled with is absolutely perfect, though, and, in fact, was good value in itself, without the "bonus" of the limited version of VideoStudio - so, I am honestly happy to now have two very fine products: Corel PSP X6 and VSP X7 - regards, Phil
