VS 9 Newbie Question - Clipping

I have just made my first movie with digital photos only. I've started working on another project with video. I have been using the scissors icon to cut clips to remove unwanted portions of the video. Is this the preferred method? I saw that there is another section you can go into, but it wasn't clear to me how to use this option.

You can also use extract video.

The preferred method for editing is whatever works for you, there are a number of alternatives ways in which you can edit - it's the final result that matters not so much how you get there. If you want to see my preffered way have a look at my website.
