I'm totally mystified, but the CR2 raw files that I view in ASP2 are significantly underexposed and grainy, versus what I see in Canon's own DPP. I've attached a side by side example.
I've completely wiped ASP2 and reinstalled from scratch, applying the latest patch. DPP is installed under WINE. I viewed them both, side-by-side, on the same monitor (color calibrated).
When I took the image, I checked the histogram on the camera, and even though it was dark, it should have been good. The histogram I see in DPP looks like what was shown on the camera's own viewscreen. The ASP2 histogram is very blocky.
ASP2 raw looks really, really bad.
I also did some images where I shot RAW + JPG. Guess what ? The JPGs look fine in ASP2, it's the RAW CR2s which are terrible.
Right now, ASP2 is not usable for much of my work.
[UPDATE: 6/15. I've gone ahead and run ASP2 from a live Ubuntu instance (14.04), to be sure that I didn't have a misconfiguration. I checked the same set of test images, and the results are the same.]
[UPDATE: 7/27. The latest version of ASP2 has addressed the histogram and conversion -- it's now workable.]
