ASP2 no longer starts after crash

Post by rgraf »

Installed 2.0.1.5 (32 and 64), tried to work on some ORF-files (~ 900) and applied setting via copy&paste.
ASP2/64 crashed when trying to click somewhere else while preview rebuild was still running.
Now ASP2 does no longer start, neither with 64, nor 32 bit.
It termineated immediately while starting.

Is there anything I can do - besides kicking this software from my PC?

You could try deleting the 'cache' folder in your ASP user folder.

Try removing the "folders.txt" file which points to the current folder...

... not to forgt, the LOG.TXT mentions in the first two lines something like this:

AfterShotPro caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module QtCore4.dll at 0023:670f5998.

Strange ... solved ... I opened AS2 by double clicking on a plugin to install it ... and AS2 started.

It is well worth examining the contents of the ASP user folder.
This is typically at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Corel\AfterShot Pro2

Here you can find:-
The AfterShotPro.log of the last run
The file folders.txt
hotkeys.xml
and various folders such as:
cache
CRASHLOG (inc. LOG.TXT referred to by afx)
batches
defaults
PlugIns
etc.

... that folder is well known - thanks to that unstable piece of software.

However there is no file "folders.txt" in it.

Nevertheless, ASP2 is now running again - even if I do not know why.

Thanks a lot.

Re: ASP2 no longer starts after crash

Today I installed the latest Update 2.0.2.10.

I just had a support call with Corel Support regarding my issues and crashes.
The good news is, that during our remote support session no further crash appeared.

What I noticed was, that when skipping through the image directories, the directories are scanned and ASP2 starts to generate previews.
Unfortunately it only starts, generates a hand full of previews and then stops generating.
I see actually ~2000 previews to be generated, but nothing happens. When clicking on a specific image, this preview is generated immediately.

The Corel Support assumes that Corel has build it that way, to avoid a high system load while generating lots of previews - and thus to avoid crashes.
Not sure if this makes sense, as - that way - the preview images do not show the actual image settings applied.

What is your experience with that?

Regards
Reinhold

The support person is clueless. Corel should train them better.
If a preview generation stops, it ran into an issue.

Well - then there is an issue, as I thought.
Question was, if anybody else - besides me - has this issue?

I rarely have hanging previews. But I can get ti to crash while working and previews run in the background.
Do the last lines of the log file tell you anything about the files where it is stuck?

I need to check the log when I'm back on my PC.
For that Support Session I created a special folder, containing subfolders with 1000 JPG, 1000 CR2 and 1000 ORF files.
I did not do anything besides stepping in each of this three directories.
