ASP2 : Slower than a snail ?

Post by FalCT60 »

Hello,

I just dowloaded a set of 94 pictures I took on sunday and today. I took over 5 minutes where ASP1 only needed 3~4 for 150.
Where on earth is the speed improvement they at corel claim ?
I think I'm going to demand for refund and wait until they release a stable improved V2. :(
Not cool at all... not cool at all... :(

Is it just importing ?

I also have huge perfomance issue with ASP 2.
Take ages to start, open catalogs.. No clue what's up.

What OS are you using ?

Not importing, just downloading.
I'll use import when catalogs are convenient enough. For now, it isn't the case.
As for the OS, I don't think it may be of any importance, since it is the same I used before I upgraded ASP from V1 to V2.
Should my computer be a bit outdated, I can't figure why and how it could have become that slower in just a couple of days and with ASP only.
But, for info, it uses a core2 quad Q9650 running at 3 GHz, 4 GB ram, a Radeon HD 6450 with 2 GB DDR3 and a 2 TB sata disk.
And it is very good at processing full HD videos. So, what for a few pictures ?

I see no difference in downloading on my win box (not traveling right now, so not downloading on Linux).
Do you see anything interesting in the log file?

cheers

I had a look at the log which was as old as ASP 1 first installation. So I renamed it and the folders containing my previously downloaded photos.
Then I launched ASP and downloaded the photos again (I hadn't enabled deletion after download).
To my big surprize, it only took 1.32 to achieve. But, now, I wonder whether it is not because the cache was built already, so the test might not be relevant.
I attached the log file if someone whishes to have a look at it, since I couldn't notice anything... noticeable for me.

Regards,

J.-L.

Download does not affect the cache at all.

Your log was old? That sounds strange.... Never seen that before.

Do another import and see whether you get it slow again and then compare this logfile with the slow run.

After wiping the registry and reinstalling ASP2, I tested importing my whole nefs, something like 15084.
It took one night - a little more than 8 hours - for the 32 bits version on my XP3 core 2 quad Q9650 @ 3 GHz & 4 GiB RAM.
I gave it a try with latest 1.4.2 Daktable on my 64 bits linux 12.04 LTS core 2 duo P9400 @ 2.4 (not 2.8, sorry) GHz & 1 (not 2) GiB RAM : it took only about one hour to achieve. :!:
There is something I definetely don't understand there.
