Multi-Trim in X7
I am having trouble using Multi-Trim in X7. When I select it the Active-Movies Window opens and so I am not able to Multi-Trim. Previously I always saw the clip in the Multi-Trim Window.

Hi
I don’t use Multi Trim but prefer to trim the clips in the timeline, so maybe not the right person to answer your question…
Sorry but I don’t understand what you mean regarding the Active-Movie Window
Can you explain or provide a screen shot of the window/s
When I select Multi Trim Video the window opens on top of the workstation.
What do you see?

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
Thanks Iata
I can't for the life of me see how to add the screen capture. I have pressed PrtScn and have it on my desktop, but when I drag it into this message it just wants to open it with Xbox and then it disappears! I have tried Multitrim again and the same thing still happens. When I open MultiTrim the ActiveMovie window opens. If I close it and try to edit in Multitrim, the clip will play but there is no picture in the Multitrim screen, so editing is not possible. I have searched the Videostudio knowledgebase for ActiveMovie and it does not produce any results.
Sometimes when I am doing straight editing the ActiveMovie window opes too, rather than displaying the clip in the usual place - for reasons that I cannot fathom.
Can anyone else help?

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
FWIW, I too don't know what you mean by ActiveMovie... though I see from a quick Google search that it was the predecessor to DirectShow. But it is essentially a Microsoft invention, and acted as a codec in older versions of Video Studio. But I have never heard of it opening a screen of its own in VideoStudio. From other Google responses, there are references to a pop-up of ActiveMovie in DirectX, which again is part of Windows...
But to Upload an image here, you can't simply drag and drop and image in your response. You have to go through the "Upload Attachment" tab below the Reply pane where you write your answers/questions. See the attached image. Once you open that tab, just follow the fairly clear instructions.

Trevor,
Re "I don’t use Multi Trim but prefer to trim the clips in the timeline" I am intriqued as to why you do not use multi trim, can you elaborate here ? To my inexperienced way of working I find it gives easier and precise editing and when you make lots of "cuts" they are all done together and the result is transferred to the timeline in one go.

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
Hi Kenneth
Most of my recordings use a small tripod with the camera on full zoom, generally recording wildlife / birds etc. Each recording may be 30 seconds or so, a lot of small clips.
When I hit the stop recording there is always a little shake before the recording stops, (full Zoom) big fingers I suppose, yes I have tried using the remote control but that has to be pointing to the front of the camera.
Anyway practically every recording needs a few frames removing from the end.
I can do that in the timeline quicker than opening the Multi Trim.
If I had a long 40 minute recording that needed splitting then yes maybe Multi Trim may be useful, even so I would cut and remove frames in the timeline.
The keyboard F3 and F4 mark-in and out is quite useful in removing frames, (the square brackets next to the scissors.)
When I first start a project I add all clips, then play each clip working from left to right, some will have the frames removed, others will be deleted altogether, but I work through all clips to the end. Probably in storyboard view---Then start again adding other effects, audio, titles etc
To be honest I have never used Multi Trim since my first version Ulead VS 5
I guess its personal preference……….

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
Thanks everyone. The problem now seems to have got worse and is sometimes happening even when I try to just play a clip in a Videostudio project. I shall try to upload the screen print. The screen print seems to have a wmv extension and I get a message that thisis not allowed. The plot thickens. I have opened a support case with Corel and they have asked me to attach screenshot, but I have the sameproblem there. They also ask me to open msinfo32 and upload this too. When I try Windows 8 just takes me to a screen that lists various email options, none of which I use.

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
Hi
Screen prints / screen shots are generally still images not video.
If you press your keyboard key Prt Sc (Print Screen), details if the screen will be saved to the PC’s clipboard.
Using an image editor you can paste those details (Ctrl+V) to a new image, save the image as Jpeg to attach to your post, there is a size limit for images I think about 550px so you may have to re-size the image.
If you press Alt+ Prt-Sc, the active window will be copied, so from Video Studio doing Right Click on a clip – Properties opens a smaller window, Alt + Prt-Sc will copy only that window, again paste to an image editor to save a jpeg image.
Video Studio Screen Capture will create a video file as WMV, this will be large (MB).
To share these files you will have to upload to a sharing site, Drop Box, Microsoft OneDrive for instance --- for others to download.
If its smaller than 20Mb it may be possible to e-mail.
msinfo32
Did Corel ask for a specific section of that file, otherwise with System Summery selected top left --You can save that as a TXT document using the File – Export, will save to a location on your hard drive.
Send the TXT to Corel

Re: Multi-Trim in X7
Thanks everyone for trying to assist. The problem was finally solved by Corel taking charge of my computer and cleaning up some things in the MSCONFIG file. How this would have caused a problem given that it is a brand new computer running Windows 8.1 and VideoStudio X7, I have no idea - unless there is some incompatibility between the two products.
