New Problem With X7

Post by Robotics »

I went and downloaded 2 bonus packs from the "get more content" cog within the program.
One installed with no problem and works.
But the other one (one of the additional fonts pack) says it cant determine the version I'm using. Which is version 7 and the bonus pack is for version 7. So it doesn't install and closes itself up.

Now every time I use VS7 and then close it, this pop up appears wanting to know if I want to install the bonus pack that failed in the past. I try and it fails for the same reason.

Any suggestions how to get rid of this .exe that is somewhere on my HD so I don't get prompt to install it every time I close the program?

I can only assume Corel have provided a file for the wrong version???

Can you remember exactly which packs you downloaded.?

There are 4 Font Packs, I would not have thought they would have caused a problem as they are installed to Windows font folder.

There are 2 title Packs 7 and 8, they should be install to Video Studio X7, if Corel have provided the correct pack.

There is one Bonus Content pack, that installs sample clips to the Documents folder structure.

Ok
The downloaded files are saved here:-
They are Hidden files so go to the Tools menu- folder options - View – show hidden files and Folders
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Downloads
The folders are given names similar to 540233871_317005 not very descriptive so difficult to identify the contents.
There is also a Messages folder that may be involved with the downloads.

Deleting/moving these may stop that installation request. But it would be nice to identify which download is causing the problem.

The error message “cant determine the version I'm using” is usually associated with Service Packs and is Corels way of saying that the SP is already installed?

Given time I will run through a few downloads, but if you can identify which you think is causing the problem that will help.

The Pack that is causing this issue in in the attached .jpg
(sorry I thought it was a font pack)

The other packs I got that did work were fonts. (also .jpg attached)

Soon as I get home from work I will try your suggestion and look in the folder mentioned and see whats happening there.

Thanks

**UPDATE**

I got to do this at work  and I removed the folders (4) that were in the directory you mentioned.
And so far I am no longer getting the popup! I will keep my fingers crossed on this.

I am guessing this wont harm the program's operation later down the road??
I still see the extra fonts I installed in the font section in edit mode.
So I'm guessing all is ok. I wont be able to test anything till I get home.

Thanks so much for directing me to that folder :)

Well, the pop-ups stopped by removing those files, but now my text (no matter what type I use) is messed up...they are always in "Bold". (and I hate bold)
No matter what I do, I can not get rid of the bold feature.

Put the folders back in their place....and the text works fine. But the pop-ups are back!

So back to square one...How can I get rid of these pop-ups ?

Hope someone can help with this.

Hi

Thanks for that information, very strange for the Download files to affect the program.
I don’t think the text always being bold has been reported before?

How many clips do you see in the titles Library, by default there should be 34, for each Title Pack installed it should increase by 10.

Last night I downloaded and installed Title Pack 7 and 8 to my laptop without problem. Today I will do the same for my desktop to see if there is a general problem.

Are you having any other problems using the program, any error messages?
Navigate the library and drag different clips to the timeline, any problems?

By the way what is in the 4 folders, there will be a .exe and xml file. What is the name of the .exe

Your computer system, can you check that you are using the latest Graphics Driver, some users have had some strange problems using old drivers?

Hi Trevor,

I have 54 total titles. I dragged many titles into the time line with no problems. And they all played. Didn't make an actual video yet, but I don't think there will be a problem.

The 4 .exe's are as follows:

VSProX7_SP1
DoMoerTitle 7
DoMoreTitle 8
VS_Bonus (this is the culprit)

I did another test. This time I left all the folders in their place, but renamed the VS_Bonus.exe and .xml files. (added "OLD" to the file names)

I still have the same problem of text always being in bold.

So I removed the "OLD" out of the file names and I still have bold text.

So I have messed up something even more by doing all this.

Guess I am just going to delete the program, reboot, and start all over and stay away from the Bonus Pack.

I just hope I can get rid of ALL of the program and folders as to not leave a trace of any of it behind.

Hi

The VS_Bonus .exe is a self extracting file containing sample video audio and image files.
The files are saved to here:-
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Bonus Content

The contents of these have to be inserted to video studio just like any other clip.
Installing this bonus pack does not alter anything within the program so I am surprised that you are having any issues from this pack.

VSProX7_SP1
The message you received regarding “Cannot determine the version” is caused by trying to re-install SP1
Try running the service pack again and you will see the message, not a problem, just the wording could be better.

DoMore Title 7 and 8

Installs 10 extra titles per file, giving you a total of 54.

If you have already re-installed the program then you should be back to square one, however I think I know how to remove the installed Titles 7 & 8, then reset the workstation back to its default first installed state.

I still don’t understand why you are still seeing the Installation window for those Title Packs, as you found deleting the downloads seems to stop that.

Then there is the Text Bold issue, now that is strange, I do not think it is associated with the downloads?

Ultimately you may be best to reinstall the program, choose to remove all personal details when un-installing.
A re-install will also remove SP1, by the way some users have had problems occurring after installing SP1, when you re-install do not install SP1, at least for the time being.

I would be interested to know if you have the same Bold issue after installation.
As I say I cannot see any reason why the downloads would cause that?

Hope that helps

Hello again,

Well I already re-installed VS7 and SP1 before I came back here only to see you wish I wouldn't install SP1 for the time being.
Oops.

But the good news is no pop-ups, and the text works as it should! :)

Got back the DoMore Title 7 & 8 and stayed away from the bonus pack this time. I do not trust that one. At least not on this machine.

I forgot to answer one of your questions regarding my graphic card drivers. According to Dell, my drivers are up to date.

Over all I am very baffled over the constant bold text problem I was having, and the message saying it cant determine the version I'm using. Very strange.

But at least all seems to be working now.

Thanks so much for your support and concern on this. If I run into any more situations, since I haven't really made a semi lengthy video (only a few test videos), I will surly add to this thread.

Thanks again :)
