I know how to add sound, how to split the audio, etc. But I still can't get Corel to play sound--sometimes even when that audio track has been added in Corel itself.
After I export the clip, and then try to insert the clip into Corel again to work on it, Corel won't recognize the sound.
I had this problem with pro x4, and hoped it would be gone in pro x 7, but no luck.
pro x7 won't record/play sound

I'm sorry but you just haven't provided enough information on which we can base a sensible answer. One thing we need to know is something about your computer architecture -- which is why we ask those questions about motherboard, graphics, sound card etc during the registration process as they are often useful. So for a start could you tell us something about that: use the suggested freeware Belarc Adviser if you don't have any other source of information about what elements make up your computer.
Can we also assume that apart from Video Studio, your computer has no problems with audio? Have you checked to make sure that the Mute button has not been accidentally pressed -- see attached image. It would also be useful to know the format of the video and audio you are using in your project, where they came from, and what you are seeking to produce. The easiest way to get this information is by right clicking on a video file or separate audio file in the timeline and selecting Properties. Then either manually copy that information and post it here or take a screen grab of the Properties box and upload it here as an attachment.

Re: pro x7 won't record/play sound
It's a 64-bit, Windows 7 OS, 24 RAM, 1 Terrabyte HD, Nvidia GeForce Gtx560 video card, Nvidia sound card.
The clip is MPEG 4. The audio is MPEG AAC.

And the mute button isn't selected?
Your system does play all other sounds ok?
WMP can play with sound the clip that VS won't play?
Will VS play anything with sound?
