Request help reinstalling backup data for older PSPX2

Post by artgal »

I've just reinstalled PSP X2 after a OS crash in which I had to get a new HD and a new reinstall of Win7Pro. I'm on a Dell M6500 Workstation Laptop (specs in profile). I'm able to read data off the old drive by plugging it into a USB Port. Yeah, I should probably break down and upgrade but I've been using PSP since version 2 and this one is my all-time fav. Unfortunately it's hard to find any help posts for that version.

Anyway, what I'd like to do is to get the program back to looking familiar again. Can anyone explain the steps needed to do this: where the necessary file/ folders would be located on my old drive. It's not bootable but eveything should be there. Will I be able to install old filters that I no longer have disks for or that were downloaded years ago? I guess I've been fortunate enough that I've never had to do this before. Sadly, my luck ran out and I have to learn how to properly import all my program settings. I think I was clever enough to keep my filters in an off-app folder, so I'm guessing it's only a matter of copying the folder to the new drive and pointing to in from within PSP??

Thanks so much for any help out there.
Barb
P.S. I'm no techno wiz, so please take that into account.

I run PSP X2 on Windows 7, 32bit, 4GB RAM. But X2 quite often "froze". So I do not recommend this version.

Version X5 was much more stable. But X6 is the latest version and recommended.

To your question:
1) Plugins can be installed in separate folders. But if installer is PSP friendly it makes copy to \Program Files\Corel\Paint Shop Pro X2\PlugIns (os something like that).
2) Your common setting are in your "Document" folder in folder "My PSP Files".

Thanks for the reply, Radim.

So can I just copy all the common files in old drive\Documents\My PSP Files into the same newly installed new hard drive\Documents\My PSP Files folders?
Any other hidden directories that would need to be copied?
As for the plugins and filters, looks like I'll just have to reinstall them. I was trying to do that last night (putting them into a Filters folder on my hard drive, with no success.
I made the adjustments in Preferences> File Locations but something else must be wrong.
Guess I'll get it figured out eventually.

Standard filters settings are OK.
But if you installed something of third party -- since X2 to X6 there are some changes. I can't help. Try latest upgrade...
