Hi there. Newbie here. I've just made my first project (in Premiere Pro) from captured DV footage. I exported my file back to DV without messing about with any interlace type settings or anything like that. So I have a huge DV file (about 8 gig - 30 mins or so) which I put in Workshop 2. So far so good. I put in my chapters, menu and all the rest and exported it using the dolby digital high quality setting. After reading about a flicker problem on this board, I set the export settings to vbr - max 6000kbps (the same as medium quality, I think) and 3 hours later I have a flickery, jumpy duff dvd. Not happy...
I've not changed any other default settings. I have the latest updates to DVDWS2. I have WinXP SP2 runnning on a P4 2.6. Plenty of Ram, Disk space and a lovely shiny mouse with a little red light on it.
I used version 1 ages ago and that worked fine. What is different in V2?
Hope someone can help... I'm going mad and having to wait for 3 hours to see if one small change has fixed the problem is driving me up the wall. Ulead tech support seem pretty useless too. Many thanks
yet more flickering jumpy video
Did you check you used bottom field first throughout all your operations? This is important.

Thanks for the quick reply Devil.
I've looked through all the settings. Capture, editing, export from Premiere Pro and they are all bottom field first. In fact the choice is greyed out in Premiere anyway. I can't find this setting in DVDWS... I find the UI extremely unhelpful. You would assume everything would default to bottom field first for DV since everyone says it's so vital... or am I showing my ignorance here..?

When doing the project settings or the encoding settings, use Customize to check on this. The problem is that non-DV projects may use the upper field first or frame, so that there cannot be a default.

The flickering problem was introduced in DVDWS2 update v2.011. I had no problem with DVDWS1 through all updates and AC3 PowerPack addin and then DVDWS2 until update 2.011.
For years I have imported DV with Canopus DV Raptor and edit with Canopus Edit/Lets Edit, simple but stable. No change to that equipment yet after applying DVDWS2 update v2.011 or later serious frame judder occurs at any bitrate, evidently the field order is wrong. You can uninstall and repeat the effect on any PC. I now have to use Canopus Procoder Express to encode the DV AVI to use the Microsoft DV Codec, then DVDWS2 works fine. I emailed Ulead in UK and had some friendly response but no action.
DVDWS1 was launched as the complete DVD authoring solution and imported from all DV editors. With this new problem DVDWS2 has no purpose as Ulead don't define from what editors DVDWS can import. Ulead have ruined what was originally a great product....

I cannot understand what you are saying.
The DV specs are well-structured to IEC 61834 and SMPTE 314M. If there is a problem importing a DV stream generated by one DV codec but not by other ones, surely the fault must lie in the DV codec not conforming to the specs or the codec settings being incorrect for the project in hand?
I've no problems importing a DV stream from a Canopus device with a hardware codec into WS2 of any flavour. I also know many other Canopus hardware/software users use WS2 with no problems.
