importing video from a home-recorded DVD
I have imported video from commercially-made DVDs into Videostudio before with no issue, but when I try to import video from a DVD I recorded on my home DVD recorder Videostudio doesn't see it...I get a message that tells me "No valid content". I though VS would see most formats, but it looks like it doesn't, and I don't know how to go about it. I am thinking I'll need to use some sort of software-based conversion, can anyone suggest a fix for me?

Re: importing video from a home-recorded DVD
If that is a valid video DVD with the proper DVD structure (a Video_TS folder containing a number of ifo, bup and vob files) then VS should have no problem importing the video.
Please list the files on the DVD.
Generally VS will not import video from commercial DVDs that have copyright protection since that would be illegal.

Re: importing video from a home-recorded DVD
Can you watch the DVD on the computer you are using Videostudio on ?
If not, may be your Home DVD recorder didn't finalize your DVD. If you do not finalize a DVD it will not be readable on another machine.

Re: importing video from a home-recorded DVD
Thanks. Yes, the DVD is finalized and I can watch it on the same computer I use for VS, with a different viewing program. I will have to try this again, and get back here. The DVD does have the files that one of you asked about. I have two computers, a older Vista machine that has VSx5 on it and that one did import that video just fine, while the Windows 8 machine with VSx7 on it gave me the trouble. I'll try it again in the morning, now that it's been off all night....and if i have to, I'll import the video on the Vista machine and then copy the files to the other computer. I'll let you all know what happens.

Re: importing video from a home-recorded DVD
Hi Mark
There is a couple of things you can try.
Copy the contents of the disc to your hard drive the VIDEO_TS folder is all you need.
Now try Insert Digital Media, browse for that folder on the hard drive.
Does that work?
If not, rename the VOB files within the VIDEO_TS folder to use the file extension .MPG
Example……VTS_01_1.VOB to use VTS_01_1.MPG
Insert the MPG to the timeline.
Otherwise use X5, maybe install that on the W8 for importing DVD discs

Re: importing video from a home-recorded DVD
Well, I managed to import the video I needed. Nothing worked, until I used VSx5 to do it and that worked fine- VSx7 on the same machine would not work, even though I have used it in the past to import video from other DVDs that were not recorded on this particular recorder. I did not try re-naming the files, I found the files just fine but I couldn't figure out how to rename them! Thanks for all your help!
