Cutting a slice out of the middle

Post by Paul 5000 »

Greetings all

I'm using PSP version X3, and I've got a background tile for a web page that's 600 x 200 px. And I'd like to cut a 600 x 100 px (horizontal) strip from the middle. Is there a way to do this?

Help!

Yes

Select the Selection tool (the one that looks like a rectangle box)

On the toolbar there is a "Custom Selection" button. Press that and a dialog will pop up asking for the top, left, bottom, right, values for the selection rectangle.

Top = 50
Left = 0
Right= 600
Bottom = 150

Hit OK

Now, hit delete to delete the selected area.

That works for selecting a section from the middle, and that's good too, and I'm thinking more of cropping a section from the middle.

You will not be able to "crop a section from the center" as the area you crop is what you end up with. You need to select and delete as Levi stated.

I'm obviously not communicating well (smile).

What I'm trying to do is start with a tile 600 x 200 px, and remove a 600 x 50 px strip from the top, and the same for the bottom, and keep the 600 x 100 strip in the middle.

Well, you can use the same selection technique then use Shift + R or from the menu Image -> Crop to Selection.

Or you can select the center point of the crop tool, and pay close attention to the bottom status bar, that will help you position it. Though the crop to selection seems easier to me.

That did the job Levi. Much better than eyeballing it. You're a genius.
