Crash, Crash and Crash again !
After dozens of hours of work I keep getting X7 crashes. It happened when selecting my own graphics for the "Page A" or "Page B" album page template in the "Flip-Album" transition. OK, leave it alone.
Now I want to save as a MPEG-2. 34 of of 45 minutes. Crash
Try again.
Crash
Change MPEG-2 settings, crash again.
OK, try to create a DVD ISO - Crash !

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
Sorry but there is no information at all in your post to be able to figure out what you are doing much less what you are trying to do.
All you have posted is "it crashes". If you want help you have to supply some details.
What do you mean by selecting your own graphics for example?

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
That's just one area where I get a crash but OK...
In the Transition of Flip Album, you have the choice of Cover, Background, Page A and Page B graphics. It gives one the option of choosing one of my own. I did that with a simple JPEG for the Cover. I also wanted to do the same for Page A and Page B graphics by choosing a Clip-Art JPEG border.
The thing is it crashes when I want to create a MPEG video of the 45 minute movie I created.
It crashed 5:36 after I choose to create a DVD Movie as an ISO image.
I don't know what I can give you in supportive data. It doesn't even tell WHY the programs stops responding. The only thing is it is consistently happening.
EDIT:
From the Application Event Viewer log after I tried to create an ISO file.
Examination of the binary shows that BOX5.VFX is actually a DLL file.

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
I notice you have not yet applied service pack 1 to VS. I don't know if it will help, but it would at least be worth trying: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 58#p289058
Also, what is the format of the video you are using in the project. I know you say you are trying to produce mpeg-2 for a DVD, but your original format might be different. Right click on a clip in the timeline and copy ALL its Properties here, please, or else do a screen grab of the Properties box and Upload it here as an attachment.

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
Actually I did.
I did not ask to obtain updates.
I did not choose an option for the software to check for updates either.
But alas, I did get the prompt and I allowed SP1 to be installed Then I got the crashes so I used System Restore to restore the OS to break point on June 3rd which was prior to installing SP1.
With the OS restored I ran X7 again and I ignored the prompt for SP1.
It was subsequent to further crashes and a Roll Back to the initial version that prompted me to post this subject matter.

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
Does it always crash at 5:46? Does it work without the transition?

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
The crashes occur at a consistent time frame in creating an ISO or MPEG.
The problem in transitions is only when modifying the Flip Album and grabbing a graphic file.
Honestly.... I'd rather concentrate on the crashes in creating a MPEG movie or ISO image.
EDIT:
BTW and only FYI: Using this forum is also problematic. I have had SQL errors instead of pages loaded, sometiimes it take s a while to load and when other times it responds quickly. other times it takes a while to post after I choose "submit".

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
The DVD movie is all photographs I have taken. There are no embedded videos. All the graphics are JPEGS that were captured by my Canon dSLR and modified with Photo Shop Elements prior to dropping them in a Timeline and adding transitions and MP3 file audio.Ken Berry wrote: Also, what is the format of the video you are using in the project. Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
I am also experiencing problems with the Corel forum server today - very slow and an occasional SQL error message. But that is only today. There have been no problems over the last week.DLipman wrote:The crashes occur at a consistent time frame in creating an ISO or MPEG.

If the problem always occurs at the same place then obviously there is something wrong at that point. What is happening at 5:46? What graphic file are you talking about?
Until you fix the crashing problem how can you concentrate on creating a mpeg video?

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
If it was working before you applied SP1, and the System Restore did not rectify the problem, I suspect you will have to bite the bullet and uninstall X7, then reinstall it and ignore the prompts for SP1.

Thanx, I will uninstall and reinstall and we will see what happens.

Pretty much at the time I would expect the failure after starting an ISO creation, 5 min 44 secs

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
I just did a simple test using some photos (from my Canon DSLR) and a flip-album transition with my jpegs for Page A and Page B - no problems.
Of course I don't have you photos or the graphics you are using or your system.
I am running VS X7 32bit with SP1 installed.
What are the properties of your images?

Re: Crash, Crash and Crash again !
While I have not yet received a definitive answer from Corel support, it "appears" that the cause of the software crashes was due to importing a VideoStudio v11 project into v17 (aka; X7). Maybe I didn't ask the right questions when I purchased the product but I was told v11 can be installed side-by-side VideoStudio Ultimate X7. I am pretty sure, but not positive, that I asked about importing a v11 project.
It is funny that I was told VideoStudio v11 is incompatible with Windows 7. When I told the sales representative it works fine, she added it is "unsupported" on Windows 7.
I finished the project and authored the DVD Movie using VideoStudio v11 with no problems. The next project will be started using VideoStudio Ultimate X7.
Thanx for the help provided. I appreciate your help, time and effort.
