Help & Product Information button broken X4

Post by geraldz »

My little red "Help and Product Information" button on the upper right corner no longer works. When I click on it, it opens the Corel Guide window, shows that the "Learn" tab is selected, then after 15 seconds or so I get the Internet Explorer message "This program cannot display the webpage"

I tried to install updates/patches but they don't install. I get the message "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate"

Help!

Hi

Welcome to the forums.

We do seem to have problems in accessing the Corel Guide from time to time, it may be a Corel server issue and may start to work eventually.

The message you see “"The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate" is Corel’s way of saying the patch is already installed, I guess they need to change the wording of that message.

I will boot X4 and try the Corel Guide, then reply again.

Post updated....yes I am also having problems connecting to the guide, the first screen shows the guide whilst loading, it then goes white with an error message.

Hi -

Thank you for the update. I'm glad to know it's not just me!

Do you have a direct link to the website the application is trying to load? At least then I can find the content that I need.

Hi

Sorry we do not have a direct link to that server, I have searched my pc many times in an attempt to find some address, I can only assume Corel are working on the server, if not they will be unaware of the problem.

If you know what files you are after we may be able to provide either the files or maybe a link for individual files.
Font packs, Title packs, DVD Menu 1 and 2, and instant project templates, loads of them.
Not sure if I have saved all my downloads for X4

Hi Trevor -

Thank you for your reply.

Do you work for Corel? If not, how do I make them aware of the problem? I tried to contact technical support but it would cost me $19!

Hi

No we do not work for Corel, we are the same as you Video Studio users that volunteer to help run the forum, on the odd occasion a Corel employee may visit, don’t hold your breath……….

Unfortunately X4 is no longer supported by Corel.
Their support policy has caused concern by many users, having to pay to inform Corel of a problem cannot be right.

I have tried to correct the problem with my version to the point that I cannot run X4, tries to load with Not Responding, I will sort that given time, maybe a re-install.

But as I say if there is anything specific you need let us know and we will try?

By the way Alt + F4 will close the Corel Guide “page cannot be displayed” error window…………..

Well the Corel Guide button was very useful. It was the only way to get access to additional content. I was specifically looking for frames (borders) that I could apply to videos. But I have figured out that I can "distort" the video and hide the missing backdrop that I wanted to cover up. So no need for a frame any more.

It's too bad that Corel links their software to cloud-based content; but then cut's off customer access to that content. I understand that Corel would discontinue support for older software, however once a customer purchases software it should never expire!

Thanks for your help.

Hi
Sorry don’t misunderstand me

The Corel Guide and Do-More downloads should always be be available, as far as I know support for Video Studio is for the latest versions 7 6 and maybe 5.
I don’t think the Support pages of Corel cover X4 being an older program. Besides having to pay.
Corel do have a facebook account that seems to work well, so maybe a visit there will prove useful.

As for frames and borders there are non on the Corel Guide Do-More downloads.
The library does contain some Frames under the Graphics section (the little flower icon)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\Samples\Decoration
Other than those create your own using transparent png or gif

geraldz

I have managed to access the Do-More download pages.
From Video Studio, if you select one of the other library options A/B , T, or FX the round orange icon shows to the top left of the library.

This link seems to work, bypassing the guide and accessing the downloads section.
Once there do not select the Learn Tab, if you do (Alt + F4 to close window)

Hope that helps.

The Corel Guide seems to be trying to access a Youtube video, not very successfully.
