Hi Graham H

Interesting that Photo Gallery can import DV, so yes only one piece of software can use the IEEE port
The problem as far as I can tell is that the device manager did not show the camera as being connected which it should do irrespective of the software being used. So I assume a hardware issue.

grahamjmwhibley

Can you make sure you are using the Mini DV Camera (Sony DCR-TRV25E) for these tests and not connecting the HD camera.

Attaching a Doc, you could have simple added more than one image to the Document

Or indeed if it *is* already running in the background -- as indicated in the first of those error messages -- and you can locate the file, then you can simply open that file in VS for editing. After all, there are no variations in a DV (or HDV) file's properties. But any DV or HDV capture, by whatever software, is done in real time i.e. one hour of tape will take one hour to capture. So patience will be required...

I have WinDV working but the same problem accured, keeps loosing the connection I think the only course of action may be to return to the business of why I cannot gain access to the saved files transfered when everything did work that I am now denied permission to open

Remaining with the connection problem, the only way to find the culprit is to get another KNOWN TO BE WORKING cam, cable and pc and do swaps with each bit until you find out which item is faulty.

Hi Graham

If you are loosing the info within Device Manager then the cameras connection is being interrupted.

Try this
1 / Re-boot the pc, this will ensure all programs are closed.
2 / Access the device manager view the window as my earlier images.
3 / Connecting the Sony DCR-TRV25E camera should refresh device manager showing your Sony within Imaging Devices.

That option should now stay, remain till you disconnect the camera irrespective of any programs being used.

You say “keeps loosing the connection” that should not happen.

I replied here with details of investigating a poor connection

Thanks, I have been in touch with Sony support and they are suggesting a faulty cable so I will see if I can borrow another Wire Wire cable but if this is not the problem I will have to see if I can borrow another camera

Don't forget the pc, as it could be the firewire port.card at that end as well.
Make sure you see these items working before you test, incase you pick up another dodgy one!

A problem I had with my Canon HV20 was that the connector at the camera end would not always connect. The connectors in the camera plug were just short to make contact every time. The problem was permanently solved by replacing the FireWire cable with one from another manufacturer.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

I have sort of good news, I got onto Sony Support sent them some screen shots and they told that the the problem was with the WireWire connection so I bought another cable and that turned out to be the problem so I now get a connection every time, this has isolated the next problem which is that when the camera connects it seems that several programs try to access the data at once causing a conflict, what I need is a way of disabling the unwanted ones, it is difficult to see which program is the correct one as there is no identity text on the ones that start up, it seems I am on the home straight now

I am trying to get a screen shot but it will not allow me to image everything on the screen so I have tried a photo but this is to large, basically loads of dialogue boxes open almost at once for different programs I will persist in trying to post the image

Hi Graham

When you connect the camera you may get an Auto Play window from windows explorer, close this panel without selecting any program.
If Auto Play is the issue you can change the settings to ignore the camera connection.

You run Video Studio
Video Studio should see the camera, after which I see a message saying a new device has been connected do you want to use it, yes to that one.

For a screen shot

pressing Alt + PrtSc will copy the active window to the clipboard.
Paste to your image editor to create a new Jpeg.
That image should be small enough to attach to the post
