Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
I am struggling to re-transfer some videos from a Sony DCR-TRV25E camera to save them prior to editing but not having a lot of luck sometimes it works ok others not, I have tried connecting via USB & Wirewire, it could be a conflict, I have posted a similar message a few months ago but since then I had a hard drive crash and nothing seems to work correctly after a new hard drive, the reason I need to re-download the videos is that the ones previously saved have become inaccessible on my external drive giving the "ACCESS DENIED" message any help would be great

Hi Graham
Please install WinDV
Use that to connect your camera via firewire to pc
If you have problems using WinDV then I would assume a problem with your pc or the Firewire connections, maybe the camera.

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
I have two cameras both Sony, one is the mini tape DCR-TRV25E & the other is an AVCHD HDR-SR12 the first has USB & FIREWIRE the other has just USB neither works so its unlikely to be the camera, I have tried to import though VideoStudio with no luck, neither camera recognized Win DVD, Media Player, Sony Play Memories Serif Movie Maker to name just four, I am thinking that the settings on the computer must be wrong, maybe a security setting or something as I also had problems in stalling a few programs without starting in safe mode (I have tried importing in safe mode as well that doesn’t work either) in VS6X i CAN SEE MY WEBCAM mybe its me, thanks for your continued interest.

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Of course for the AVCHD HDR-SR12 there is no capture required. Just simply use Windows Explorer to copy the video files from the camcorder to a folder on your hard drive. The video files can then be inserted into the video program just like any other video file.

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Hi Graham
I am using Windows 7 but assume these details will be the same for Windows 8
When I view my device manager I see the “IEEE 1394 Bus host controller” listed.
First image below
Then if I connect my camera to Firewire the device manager refreshes with an addition to the list.
Imaging Devices shows my camera being recognised and indeed given a name, it is actually a Panasonic GS 400.
Second image
What do you see when viewing the Device Manager?

Interesting I can see the IEEE 1394 controller but when I plug the mini tape camera in nothing changes, I will check out the other camera.

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Hi Graham
If your operating system / Device manager is not seeing the camera then you have a problem with the hardware, Firewire card, Cable or Camera.
Until Device Manager recognises the camera no software will work capturing video.
However……….
There was an issue for some Windows 7 users not sure if it affects Windows 8 ((A little bit more research, it appears Windows 8 does NOT provide the Legacy driver))
Users, they had to set the system to use the Legacy driver.
Ken explains here.
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... cy#p287640
If that does not work then you should investigate the IEEE connections.
1 / with the pc shut down, try connecting the camera to the pc, switch on camera , then start windows
2 / if the firewire card has more than one port, try using each in turn.
3 / Use another cable
4 / Use another pc, use your MiniDV Camera and cable, if that works then the cable and camera are ok, only leaves the pc and firewire card.
5 / Move the firewire card from the installed PCI slot to another slot, that is assuming you have a spare PCI slot.
6 / The only thing not covered as far as I can say is replacing the firewire card.

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Thanks Trevor I will try your suggestions, it is taking a long time to sort this and its doing my head in, if it is the camera it will not be worth fixing it due the high cost of A/V repairs, when I cracked my HD camera sceen it cost £234.00 not sure how much that is in USD,

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Hi Graham
I am not to interested in USD unless I am purchasing Corel products as a download, I live in Leeds a few hours north of you.
Firewire cards are relatively cheap and easy to install, simply plug in and secure with one screw. Maybe your card is loose, as I say move it to another slot, then again it maybe the cable.
You just need to work through the options to try to identify the culprit.
I don’t have Windows 8 so cannot test the IEEE drivers?

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
Hi
Well that's an improvement.
If the connection is intermittent then I would suspect a loose connection or faulty cable, shake it about a bit.
You can attach the images to the forum, attachment options at the bottom of your post. I think it is limited to 2 or 3 images per post, the images have to be max 550px wide I think?
Upload attachment tab
Browse for file
Add the File
Then place in line at curser position

Re: Videostudio X6 - help transferring videos
OK I have about 6 in all, I have noticed that when it does connect that in task manager there is a program showing "WLX Import Video" which seems to conflict with another program starting up at the same time, I will go into settings an disable it

In windows 8, photo gallery can be used to import dv from minidv cams connected by firewire, make sure that isn't running.
